    Onida 32HMS LED TV

Can be a good buy if the company decides to revise its pricing

Good feature set, DivX HD playback through USB, easy to use menu, good color reproduction

No button for skipping files in USB mode, could have been priced better, design on the bezel may not appeal to everyone

Onida has dropped off the grid in the TV segment and hasn't really had any stand out offerings till late. With every other manufacturer jumping aboard the LED bandwagon, Onida too recently stepped on board when they launched their new Svelte series of LED TVs this October. We've received two sizes for review; a 32" and a 22", and today we'll be reviewing the former. Onida's goal is to compete with the big players in the market and offer something unique that would set them apart.

The new Svelte series come with what Onida calls I-Care technology, which is toughened glass bonded with the LCD panel. This is also further coated with a UV protective film that serves two purposes; one of reducing reflections and the other being protection from UV rays. The glass can also withstand a great deal of force, so if you have kids in the house, this can be a godsend.

Apart from this, Onida's entire Svelte lineup features a 1920x1080 resolution, dual USB2.0 ports capable of playing back DivX HD, Surround sound and their own SRVe Image Engine. The DivX HD part is probably the most exciting bit since we usually see such features reserved for the high end models only. Let's see if the TV is able to deliver as we put it through the grind.

Bundle

  • These are the accessories that come with the TV
  • Instruction booklet
  • Remote
  • Batteries
  • Mounting bracket with screws
  • USB extension cable
The extension cable is a nice touch since if you wall mount the TV, plugging in a USB drive can be a real task.

Hi, Its a good review overall. But you have compared it to LG LE5300 which is 720p and not 1080p as you have mentioned. You should have compared it to LE5500 which is 1080p. best regards, Sachin M

I got this along with a 22" lcd tv free. If we assume the 22" lcd costs 10k then the price of this 32"LED works out to 35k not bad. pros: The clarity of the image/colours is good cons: the dark scenes definitely suffer reflection problem, even in night times/dark rooms lots of moving white dots in normal cable broadcast. It made me wish for my old sony vega CRT (which used to display all blue colurs as green! - the reason I went for a new TV) verdict: great for bright and colourful images bad for dark/noisy scenes question: Is it not IPS? I cant believe that a TV which costs 42k does not have IPS. I know the 22" does not have IPS, the vertical viewing is almost zero degrees. but the 32" LED certainly doesn't look bad. can somebody clarify this?
