The Apple iPad seems like a runaway hit with the kids as a lot of them plan to purchase one for themselves in the next six months, according to the recent survey by research firm Nielsen. This research was conducted among a group of 6-12 year olds.
From the ones surveyed, around 31 percent want to own the latest tablet by Apple - the iPad. This is the highest among all electronic devices, even gaming consoles. Computers and iPod touches take the second spot, with 29 percent votes for both. The third spot is taken by the Nintendo DS/DSi/DS Lite with 25 percent votes. This not only shows that the iPad is popular with the kids but that it is also overtaking game consoles dedicated gaming consoles as the preferred gaming device. Even among gaming consoles, the PlayStation 3 received far more votes than the Xbox 360. Similarly, the PlayStation Move is preference over the Microsoft Kinect, according to the survey results.
Things look a bit different when the same survey was conducted among people older than 13 years of age. Computer is leading the chart with 20 percent votes, closely followed by TV and smartphone (non-iPhone) with 19 percent votes each. At third place is the iPad again with 18 percent votes.
In the second chart, you can see that the adults clearly give more preference to devices such as TVs, Blu-ray players and E-Book readers. They too prefer the Nintendo Wii over the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, however, the PlayStation still has a lead over Xbox in this table.
Apple has clearly got everyone's attention with its products, whether they are young or old. Now with its Black Friday special shopping event just a few days away, it seems a lot of those kids will be getting their hands on a shiny new iPad at a price that will leave a smaller hole in their parent's wallets.
I remember when I was a kid - I was pretty demanding, I just wanted everything and my parents did their best to put up with my demands. But I still understood that there are some things, which are just meant to be handled by adults. Had my first pc at the age of 12 (a 386 with a monochrome display running at a 'Turbo' speed of 75 Hz!) but it at least sat on a table and one couldn't lose it. You give a kid a phone or an iPad and you can be sure that your lil bundle of joy will either lose it someplace, break it accidentally, spill something on it or simply abuse it for fun to a point where it crashes. Hell, I had a habit of opening up electronic gadgets just to see what they look like inside - the circuitry, wires & how it all worked. What says another kid isn't going to attempt something like that? Stuff is expensive these days and even for those who can easily afford the priciest, most exclusive of gadgets, make sure your kid understands the value of anything its given. Kids tend to use everything as a toy. Nothing wrong with that - its just the way kids are. But before handing out a reasonably expensive gadget to a kid, make sure it understands the responsibility of handling something like an iPad. Computers, dvd players and gaming consoles are fine and probably the least they can damage or misuse.
Your dad was a better dad than you are. He perhaps did not think that you may spoil that computer which at that time must had been an expensive gadget. Good luck to your Kid..
