    Dell Inspiron M501R

Good build and aesthetics, but you can get much better performance at the same price

Great aesthetics, solid build, WLED screen is bright and vibrant, full sized keyboard, four USB ports

Mobile Phenom II X4 is not much faster than a Core i5, runs really hot, average battery life, no express card slot

It was ironical to have dull looking and plasticky notebooks from Dell under its Inspiron series because despite its nomenclature there was nothing inspiring about it. After the refresh though, the new Inspirons live up to their name with a completely overhauled design and feel. We already covered the new Inspiron 14R a while back and now we look at the recently launched AMD powered Inspirons that fall under the new M501R brand name.

There are currently two CPU options available, a triple core Phenom II N850 and a Quad N930. Today we have the latter configuration, which is the full blown version with 4GB RAM, 500GB hard drive and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD550v with 1GB memory.

Previously AMD based laptops were notorious for burning your lap, which is why we stayed away from them. Also, the performance wasn't anything to write home about either. Let's see what's changed with the new Phenom II chips and if they are able to deliver better performance without stinging your thighs.

  • Charger
  • Driver disk

For better tech services • Outsourcing is a way of life if you do business. I personally support outsourcing of anything that is not core to your business. Customers are your biggest assets. If you lose your customers, you have nothing left. • In today's information-rich economy, most customers can find a substitute supplier in literally no time. If you treat them well your chances of customer retention are higher. • Customers do not like it when they are talking to a third party rather than you. Once they find out they are always disappointed. If you cannot and do not want to serve your customers by using your own team of dedicated and committed employees, you should not be in business. Even with a gesture as small as flexibility, if your employees know you’re solidly behind them when they need to get through their personal “stuff,” they can’t even dream of going off to some other cold, impersonal employer. And that means they wouldn’t dream of treating your customers coldly, either. Win-win-win!

This Phenom processor comes fully loaded, with an Anti-virus and a graphics card which is not present with Core i5 processor at the same point. Another thing about heat is that - I do agree that it gets hot but with a BIOS upgrade, things have got better and laptops do tend to get hot and are not mean't to be used literally, er, on the lap... Please keep your laptops on flat surfaces, ALWAYS!... You can skip it all you want to, but this is a very good product at the price point...

Techtree whats with ur obsession of Dell and Apple laptops? There are lots of brands out there. How about giving a review for latest HP Pavilion DV6 Argento Blush and the ENVY series?.... Help out to discover the best. A quick review post would be deeply appreciated.

I strongly disagree with the reviewer here, all the OEMs are lining up for AMD's new Danube and Nile processors. They're known for good battery life and less heat. I7 / maybe faster but what cost ? Energy and heat , and that difference is very very slight.

I have this laptop from last 1 month, it is not "really hot" when I compared with my i7 720 cpu based laptop. I can work in AMD Phenom II X4, but with i7 720, I was really hard to work on 10 mintunes. my dislike about this laptop is Num-Keypad in keyboard. Otherwise profermance is good enough @41000 with 4 actually core than just 2->4 cores:-)
