Google offering users cash for spotting and notifying security loopholes in many of their products
In January, Google had started offering money to people who report bugs in their Chromium project (which bears the popular Chrome browser as fruit). They're now expanding this scheme to their other popular products like YouTube, Blogger, Orkut apart from Google.com. Android, Picasa or Google Desktop don't fall under it yet, but Google said they might expand it to these too in the future. So how much do you get? It depends upon the intensity of the bug found - it could be anywhere between $500 to $3100 (Rs. 22,182 to Rs. 1,37,533). Not bad eh?
The flaws have could range from XSS, server-side code execution, cross-site scripting and bypass of authorization to any serious bug that affects the confidentiality or integrity of user data. Other than the money, those uncovering these cracks will also get their name up on the credits page. You can go the same page to report any bug. Lastly, if you choose to donate your bounty as charity then Google pledges to double whatever you've earned.
The incentive program sounds like a great idea for Google to strengthen the vulnerabilities of their products. Plus, hard cash is any day better than giving away something like an Android phone maybe - not everybody wants one. Source: PGMag.com
