    Asus O!Play HD2

    Roydon Cerejo, Oct 29, 2010 1208 hrs IST

    A bit expensive but supports a number of features

    Supports every possible format, 7.1 channel Dolby TrueHD, can fit a 3.5" hard drive, very good build quality, remote is easy to use and ergonomic, supports USB 3.0 link for PC transfer

    A bit expensive, NAS features are a bit limited and don't work well all the time, no YouTube widget, no automatic update for firmware (have to do it manually through pen drive)

We first caught a glimpse of the O!Play HD2 at CeBIT where we noticed a media player with a new design and added features. The O!Play HD2 had USB 3.0, Dolby TrueHD 7.1 audio support and the ability to add a 3.5" desktop hard dive, as it also supports NAS and a BitTorrent client. It's a little late here but we've finally managed to snag one for review. The O!Play HD2 will be added to the other O!Play media players like the HD-R1 and the HD-R3.

The HD2 is a lot bigger than the older O!Play models since it has to accommodate a 3.5" hard drive. However, due to this increase, Asus has been able to add a Component port which was missing from the others. You also get Coaxial audio-out. Here's a little comparison of the O!Play line up from Asus. Surprisingly, Asus has dropped Internet TV and RSS News from the HD2.

As you can see, the HD2 is not a whole lot different as compared to its smaller siblings, except for the added NAS features and new audio codec support. If these things aren't of any interest to you then the older HD-1 and HD-3 will still make a really good buy, as the prices have dropped since the time we reviewed it.

Bundle

The O!Play HD2 comes with the following  accessories in the box;

  • Operational manual
  • Disk with user manuals
  • AC adapter
  • Power cord
  • Remote control with batteries
  • HDD power and data cable
  • HDD bracket and screws
  • Composite A/V cable

....and now that desktop hard drive prices have fallen, you can easily pick up a 1TB HDD for Rs. 2,800.. Can u xplain this Statement..and wich co is giving a 1TB for the amount u mentioned Roydon? This is a great device though, bt lyk u said it beats the price, cuz the Xbox and hte PS3 can do all of this and much more, taking sm features out here and there which are impractical and useless...
