This is a nice combination of speed, capacity and ruggedness

Extremely rugged build, waterproof, super-fast USB 3.0 performance, capacity, security, price

A bit bulky, no backup button, below average USB 2.0 speeds, slow in assorted file transfers

We have been reviewing portable hard drives since long and have seen them evolve. They used to be plain boring before, but now have become trendy and fashionable. The one which we have for review today is a military grade rugged drive that is so rugged that you may probably be able to take it to the battlefield! But even though it's rugged, it looks elegant enough for the business professional.

The drive in question is the Silicon Power Armor A80 with a huge 640 GB capacity and the new super fast USB 3.0 interface.

The drive comes neatly packed into an attractive box with protective packing inside.

Bundle

  • Silicon Power Armor A80 640 GB
  • USB cable
  • Quick Start Guide

While the drive can work well with any PC with a USB 2.0 port, there always is a chance that it may not work because of insufficient power. Therefore, it would have been better if a Y-type cable would have been provided for extra power.

Most portable drive makers do not provide any software disc these days. Instead, they opt to put the software on the drive itself. While this is not such a bad idea, there is a chance of ignorant users accidentally deleting the software from the drive without backing it up. So you can download the software from the website instead.

In Pros you mention: super-fast USB 3.0 performance In Cons you mention: below average USB 2.0 speeds I don't get it! Do you mean it runs good when used in 3.0 mode and bad when used in 2.0 mode? Kindly be a bit more clearer.

It is clearly mentioned as you yourself quoted, in the pros and cons. It is again mentioned on Page 7 and then in the conclusion of Page 8, if you have read the review. So where lies the confusion?

Maybe Nandeep hasn't discovered the virtues if the next page button yet. Next time give the common sense quiz before you hit the reply button. Okay?
