    LG 47LX9500 LED LCD TV

    Great 2D picture quality but the 3D needs a bit more polish

    Good 2D picture quality, deep black levels - thanks to Local Dimming LEDs, slim and sexy design, plays DivX HD Plus (MKV,etc), moderate power consumption

    3D performance isn't very convincing, reflections are a big problem in brightly lit rooms, sound is weak and flat, quite expensive

If you walk into any of the electronics stores in malls, you'll see 3D TVs being heavily advertised with demo units setup to lure potential customers. In fact they all look very good having been setup perfectly for the optimum 3D experience. But what happens once you take it home, does it still deliver the ultimate viewing experience or was it just smoke and mirrors? Well, we were curious just as you guys are and after a lot of waiting and pestering, and some more waiting, we finally got not one but two 3D TVs from LG.

Sadly both were the same model, only different sizes; some sort of a logistical mix up I guess. Anyways, the 47LX9500 is a 47-incher from the LX9500 series - LG's flagship offering at the moment.

There's only one word to describe the design, brilliant. Due to the compact size of the TV, the 47-incher and the 55-incher come in nearly identically sized cartons, which make it very easy for shipping as well as setting up. The LX9500 commands respect and comes packed in a special foil/plastic cover. Next let's take a look at the bundle before we set it up.

Bundle

These are the accessories that come with the 47LX9500;

  • Instruction manual
  • Nero Home PC software
  • Multi-lingual manual disk
  • Remote
  • Component and Composite adapters
  • A pair of 3D glasses

The 3D glasses provided are active shutter glasses and will need charging. LG provides a USB charging cable that can be plugged into the TV's USB port.

Why does Techtree editor allow LG people to spam over here? I have been observing this and it is very clear that the sudden bundle of comments posted one after another are done by LG people to help promote their TVs

FPR (Film-type Patterned Retarder) is the LED/LCD panel technology, which is used in 3D TV. It shows left and right images through different pattern in a circular polarizer .SG (Shutter Glasses) 3D shows each left and right image alternately. When TV displays left eye image, the glasses block the signal of right eye image by closing the shutter of right glass lens. But FPR 3D shows the both images of left-eye and right-eye simultaneously
