We at Techtree are generally busy giving people advice on what to buy and informing you about the latest happenings in consumer tech. Passion for technology is what binds our team together and communicate with our audience. Another factor that brings us together is our interest in sci-fi movies! I'm sure many of you share this same liking.

So what makes a sci-fi movie click? Does it ever make you wonder, "What if this actually happens?" Various ingredients go in the melting pot; things like a great story, eye candy graphics and performances. Wait, there's one more element that many a times is forgotten - the background score.

Hearing them again can sometimes give you goose bumps, as you try to visualize the scene where these sounds were used. Make sure your speakers are turned on and set on high volume for here are my Top 10 musical themes in sci-fi movies.

Iron Man



Iron Man entered my favorite super-hero list and claimed the first position without me realizing it. I remember this theme being used when Tony Stark is chased by two American Fighter Jets perplexed at the flying object they see in front of them.

While the Dark Knight has a fabulous score by maestro Hans Zimmer, how does it rate as a Sci-Fi film? Its more of a comicbook superhero centered crime drama. And Star Trek (2009) has an amazing score, which is not even mentioned. Even Iron Man doesn't rate as a Sci-fi film... while the technology that makes Iron Man possible is surely sci-fi, the premise of the movies isn't. For any movie to be rated as Sci-fi, the setting, the plot, the background all has to have futuristic/space/alternative society structure/technology elements. Movies like Dark City, Knowing, Serenity (best sci-fi movie theme I've heard in years!), Contact, Children Of Men, Minority Report, Moon, Pandorum, Starship Troopers, Sunshine, Primer, eXistenZ, Alien, Jurassic Park, A Clockwork Orange, Brazil, Blade Runner are Sci-Fi movies... not Batman, Iron man, Superman etc. And Avatar's score was disappointing to say the least - unfocused, trying-to-fit-in-world-music travesty.

Not to mention that the Music piece linked here is from Batman Begins. It's called Molossus. (where Batman evades the city cops in the Tumbler)

I really liked the sound track of the pirates of the Caribbean, I know that it is not a Sci-Fi movie but it came to my mind after listening to all the sound tracks listed here, so i felt like mentioning it here.

I thought Star Trek and Star Wars should be on top of the list - they are just so epic. And to be honest, I don't recall a single other movie score from the list other than Terminator - that is just so stuck in my mind.

For transformers,the better track in my opinion would be when autobots land in earth...that was one amazing score...

That is a really cool compilation. I got me the IronMan compilation a few days ago and have been hooked to it since. This is just what I needed to explore more of music themes from movies!! Do you have a blog where one could find more of your favorite music or even playlists? :-)
