Starting 8:00 am local time on September 25, Chinese citizens will get the first hands-on experience of Apple's iPhone 4. Apple has finally decided to release the much awaited handset in China. However, its availability would be limited to the Hong Kong Plaza store in Shanghai, the new Apple Store Xidan Joy City in Beijing and at China Unicom stores.
In a statement, Apple clarified that customers who buy their iPhone 4 at an Apple Retail Store will receive free Personal Setup service and would be eligible to participate in special workshops throughout the day to help them learn more about iPhone 4.
As for the prices, the suggested retail price for the 16GB model is CNY4,999 (Rs. 34,000 approx.) while the 32GB version would be priced at CNY5,999 (Rs. 40,000 approx.). All prices are without a contract.
The Indian prices of the iPhone 4 models would more or less be the same around these approximate converted prices. What we would have really liked is the two year contract option that is being offered in U.S. At least that way, the phone would be a lot more affordable to folks in our country.
Back in June, Vodafone had promised to bring iPhone 4 to India by October 2010.
