The Samsung Wave S8500 is one helluva phone, isn't it? With a spectacular spec sheet and equally satisfying performance in real life, especially in the multi-media department, the Wave leaves very few things to be desired for people who seek a true convergence device. Samsung's Bada OS, which was designed in-house, was looked upon with incertitude by cellphone enthusiasts, as they wondered how it will stand against strong contenders like Google Android or even Apple's iOS. But now we know that it is more than just fairly usable.

The Bada OS's app store wasn't well-populated with popular apps that we love when we tested the Wave. It has been over three months since its release and we are yet to see some of those apps trickle down to this platform. If app makers were waiting to see how the platform has proliferated, the news of Samsung Wave crossing 1 million in sales in just the first month seems to be good enough proof.

From our wish-list, there are five apps that we desperately need on the Bada platform. Once these apps make it to the store, there is no reason why one should not buy the Samsung Wave. Following are those five apps:

One more problem of wave.it doesnt have a quality pdf reader. If u try to read some e books it comes out blurred but the same text is more than readable in the i pod touch.A very good point, opera mobile is probably the most imp thing i need at the moment than any other thimg. While it has a decent library of gamesloft games like assasins creed, nfs shift, blade of fury, real football .

hey all. thanks for all the info. Would like to know, from those that live in bangalore, about the best price available for this phone. Would be really grateful if anyone could tell me the best place to buy a wave in bangalore. Am planning to buy it by this weekend...

hey you can search for a few shops in jayanagar 4th blk as well as channel 9 near national coll jayanagar. Since the supply for the phone is scarce they would demand a higher price. I would say, a price between 16500 and 17500 is a good buy. Hope i've helped u.

Hi there, I just want to know if text messages can be saved to the memory card on the wave. I heard that one can store only 1000 text messages on the phone..

I guess all these 5 features are available in GALAXY and The point is if Wave will have these features then it will become Galaxy ...hence Samsung will never do this on its own ...they get 12-13K more for the Galaxy :-) By the way this article is brilliant and speaks what I want in my WAVE...any idea when we will have all this on the WAVE Manish Kohli

The Java version of google maps works on Wave without the following features 1. my location works only when or after you get a GPS lock on your position. ie., it does not work with cell id like it works on with non GPS phones. so i want google maps to work with cell id also, like even if your gps is turned of it should be able to show your location using cell id. depending on GPS only has problems It takes hell a lot of time to get the satellite lock, and if you are on the move like on a car or train you never get a lock at all. mostly does not work indoors. 2. multi touch. when a native google map app for bada comes i want it to work with features too.

In addition to your suggestions I would include a good open framework ebook reader (like, for e.g., stanza is on the iphone). Something to import, and have a quality viewing experience, for epubs, pdfs, chms etc. Maybe the prog would just read one common format, as desktop versions of mobile reading devices like mobireader or stanza desktop will do the conversion job. So simple, and desperately needed.

Hey Michael, Anyview is a decent enough ebook reader application that should work on Wave. Just give it a try!

Agreed. But it is not a native version that is available on the App store. Thus you won't get multi-touch zooming (which the phone supports), as Nagarjuna rightly mentioned. Nagarjuna, can you confirm if the text in the maps is easily readable? Or is it too tiny?

If multi-media is your priority, and by that I mean a combination of a great screen, good photo and HD video capture, direct video playback of DivX and even 720p MKVs, then look no further than the Samsung Wave. It is the best you will get under Rs. 20k. But if you are more keen on the Android OS, social network integration, then the Wildfire will do...as long as you're OK to live with the low-resolution display (It will seem extremely disappointing when compared to a Wave's display, but in hindsight, it isn't entirely unacceptable)

Really nice article. As Bada is based on Linux supporting these features will not be a problem.I am expecting the supports for the above applications soon.
