Makes fun of Apple's aversion to Flash via a print ad
Looks like Apple's competitors have caught up with it when it comes to taking a dig at competition. Apple, who is traditionally known for its cheeky advertising campaigns against its competitors (most often, ripping them to shreds, in a very subtle manner) has, for quite sometime, been at the receiving end.
Motorola, who had earlier mocked Apple with a "No Jacket Required" ad campaign, making fun of the iPhone 4's (in)famous reception issues, is at it again in an ad that appeared in the print media recently. The latest ad, showcasing the Droid 2, has a caption that reads "Flash Websites? There's a Phone for that".
If you're wondering what's so cheeky about this caption let us remind you of Apple's famous caption for its app store with the caption "There's an app for that". Rings a bell?
With Apple clearly distancing itself from integrating Flash support on its mobile devices, competitors have been taking advantage of the controversy and it seems, till now, only Motorola could think of something as cheesy as this!
Sorry to break the news everyone but I really don't miss flash. Although Apple have their flaws, I prefer things be proprietary and work then sluggish and buggy. I agree with Ankush Kapoor, Motorola is trying desperately to stay relevant instead of focussing to make better products that are innovative.
Sorry to break the news to you but not everyone (most in fact, don't) give a crap about what you do or don't miss. It's not so much about what you or I want but what our choices are and how those choices are limited to protect the business motives of the companies we do business with. Sure there is freedom to leave Apple but for most that means paying a couple hundred dollars in early termination fees.
I have an original Droid. Just got the flash update recently. The phone is very fast and I haven't noticed any extra battery drain that Mr. Jobs claimed would happen if flash came to smartphones. Maybe though only said that it would be too big a drain on an iPhone for their "flashy" (no pun intended), but not well thought out designs (overheating in the 3GS, antennagate 4).
LOL well in that case you probably don't browse the web that much.
You probably don't even know what "Flash" really is do you? You are apple fan boy so its OK.
Now my buddy who is an Apple user like you and big time ignorant on tech is ready to crack his Iphone in half.
He keeps asking me why so many internet sites don't work on his Iphone. I would tell him but he is an Iphone user and he probably won't get it.
I can totally watch flash porn movies on my droid! lol, just sayin.. I never was a big fan of the Mac bubble they keep there self in.. its just nice to be unrestricted with my electronics.. If i wana download a nudy app i can, if i wana download an app for root users from the android market, i can. If i wana sit back and feed my freakin turtles on my igoogle homepage from my phone, i can now.. if i wana watch my youtube vids from the browser, i can now.. But i will admit if it were not for apple raising the bar with the first iphone, innovation in the smartphone world would have progressed a-lot slower. For that i do thank Apple, and Steve Jobs for!
I totally back you on those last two sentences. For as much as I'm unhappy with Apple these days, they did start the boom* in smart phones.
*even if, just like the MP3 player, they weren't the first.
While I choose Android for the freedom, I support Apple in their quest to put Adobe in their place. Proprietary plug-ins have no place in my browser, particularly when they have a track record for security holes. On my phone, are you kidding? I have Flash turned off.
While I own an iPod and an iPad, I'll still be the first to admit that Steve Jobs makes me want to vomit in my mouth sometimes, as well as the all-too-common "Apple elite" mentality you sometimes feel from the iPhone users. HOWEVER, Motorola shouldn't be so smug. I went through two of their Droid 2 phones and both were filled with defects and bugs, from half working screens, to keyboard backlights that didn't light up in dark rooms 50% of the time, or random reboots in the middle of a call or texting. And the fact the phone was designed so when you use the top half of a case, it partially blocks the top row of the "improved" keyboard shows that their designers aren't as bright as they thought, too. Apple = arrogant (yes). Motorola has no room to talk = (yes as well). Sorry to both... my next phone will be a Blackberry. It's not as flashy or cool, but at least they WORK.
For all you folks saying "they should focus on innovation instead of cheeky adverts", I have 2 things to say: 1: Me thinks you don't know what "innovation" even is. 2: Are you under the impression that the engineers just stop "engineering" and lay about coming up with ad campaigns? They hire people to do that. The marketing blokes coming up with ad campaigns has no effect on what the engineers and R&D blokes are doing.
I think it's funny, which is the whole point, I'd imagine.
Unless they improve their customer service no one is gonna buy a moto phone here in India. I had a bad experience with them a few years ago... and i made sure none of my friends/relatives bought a moto phone. I am sure there would be many like me. They were unbelievably arrogant and inefficient back then.. wonder if its any different now..
Well Done! Moto LOOL. Apple and Steve jobs get the same treatment what they did to others.
Someone over here said ,
"I think they should focus more on innovation than these marketing digs. "
Just think of what Apple did to hide their design flaw on iphone4(Antenna gate problem). Squeeze every phone on the planet to death and declare they too suffer from signal loss. Apple themselves have to blame for this.
i think motorola is trying really hard. But till now I dont think they have been able to steal the thunder from Apple. Although some of my friends really like their Droid, I think they should focus more on innovation than these marketing digs.
