Design & Construction
Although the new 360 is not as strikingly small as the PlayStation 3 slim, it is noticeably smaller than the older version. It is shorter and thinner, but when seen sideways, it is a bit longer than its predecessor.
The new 360 has a completely glossy surface on all sides and gets covered with smudges the moment you take it out of the packaging. It does look very classy though. The design is a lot more angular now, compared to the gentle curves on the older model. In the sea of black you will see some clever use of shiny chrome that breaks the monotony of the otherwise completely black surface. Unfortunately, a major problem with the shiny exterior is that it picks up scratches pretty fast. Our week old console looked like it was tied behind a car and dragged around town.

On the front of the console you will notice that the power button looks different. Unlike the older model, the power button is now touch sensitive and has the infamous four rings around it. The disc eject button too is now touch sensitive. It's placed above the disc tray and is very inconspicuous.
Below the power button (or on its right, depending upon how you place the console) are the two USB ports under a flap. Unfortunately, the ports are placed a bit too close to each other and you would have a hard time sticking in larger flash drives.
On the right side of the console you will see the large fan, which throws out hot air. The top area of the new 360 is open as well, so that it can pull in cool air. The new 360 has just one large fan compared to two smaller fans on the older models. Compared to the older model, the new 360 runs slightly warmer. Play a game for a couple of hours at a stretch and the new 360 can be too hot to touch near the fan area.
