Apple today announced the iOS 4.1 update for the iPhone and iPod touch. This new update fixes several bugs, including the ones regarding the proximity sensor, Bluetooth and some specific to the iPhone 3G. Among new features, we get a new HDR (High Dynamic Range) in iPhone 4 for taking pictures. In this mode the phone takes three photographs in quick succession at a low, normal and high exposure vale and then combines them into one image which has good mount of details in the bright as well as the dark areas, which would have been lost otherwise.

4.1 also allows you to upload HD videos over Wi-Fi (earlier they used to scale down) and adds TV show rentals. Game Center, something that we saw a preview of at the launch of iOS 4.0, will now be a part of 4.1 and the service will finally be launched. For those who are unaware, Game Center is to iOS what Xbox Live is to the Xbox. It is an online service for playing multiplayer games and comparing your scores on leader boards with other.

Apple also gave a sneak peek at iOS 4.2, which will exclusively be for the iPad. It will include all the features in iOS 4.1 but will add wireless printing and AirPlay. With AirPlay, you will be able to stream the videos and photos on your iPad wirelessly to the new Apple TV and watch them on the big screen.

The iOS 4.1 update will be made available next week for certain iPhone and iPod touch models and the iOS 4.2 update will be made available for the iPad in November. Both the updates will be free of cost.
