Backup drives are preferred usually by system administrators to back up data on the computers under their care. But these days such drives are also being bought by home users who want to store tons of data they download from high speed internet. Hitachi XL2000 is a backup drive that can cater to such people with its huge 2 TB capacity enough to store or backup huge amount of data. Based on a single 3.5-inch hard drive inside, this drive sports the USB 2.0 interface and is the first Hitachi external hard drive we have ever laid our hands on. Let us see if this drive performs as well as the famed internal hard drives from the company.

Bundle

  • Hitachi XL2000
  • Quick Start Guide
  • USB 2.0 cable
  • Power adapter with four different socket adapters
  • Stand for the drive

Hitachi does not provide a software CD with this drive, instead the software is present on the drive. Hence, it is better to copy this software to another place or you may need to download it in case it gets deleted. A power adapter is provided with four different plug types to be able to connect to different socket types.

We purchased a Hitachi USB 2.0 XL2000, 2TB external hard drive and plugged it in. Q1: Is there an ON/OFF switch? How do you turn the drive off? Q2: When I wanted to back up a "large number of directories/folders' it would not permit it, and so, I had to resort to copying just five or six at a time. This of course took a lot longer and required me to watch the whole process. Is there a way to back up a large number of fines at one time? Q3: Is there a user manual O/L that we could reference when it doesn't act as a normal drive? Thank you for your time and support. Regards, G

When I plug mine into my computer, it doesn't detect it. Is there something I need to be doing or is mine faulty?

Product priced too high for old speed standard . Seagate and WD with USB + esata for 2 TB are avl 7k and 10k respectively.
