Enthusiast manages to port Ubuntu on Galaxy S and works just fine
If you thought that loading Android on iPhone was geeky enough, think again. We say this as an XDA Developer forum member Armin Coralic has gone a step ahead. This guy has managed to install and run Ubuntu on Samsung Galaxy S smartphone! Yes, GNU Linux Kernel based Ubuntu operating system can run on your smartphone albeit the port doesn't work as fast as the Android itself. But we can expect other enthusiasts to tweak it.
A week back Armin Coralic, posted on his blog details on how to create chroot environment for ARM architecture based processors and run Ubuntu Linux OS. However this Ubuntu Linux version is a stripped down form of the same. Later, Coralic posted a step-by-step method of porting Ubuntu on Galaxy S.
Here's a proof of Ubuntu running on Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000 smartphone.
For those who wish to avoid the hassle of creating a compatible image file, Coralic has already posted link to download his version. Since this is the initial port, we don't know if all components of Ubuntu are functional. Do note that if you don't know what you're doing, you might just end up turning your phone into a dead paperweight.
This is like removing a v8 engine from ferrari and install with maruti 800 one!
whats use of this madness? We already criticised windows 6 platform, so its the hight of crazyness, to remove android and go with something, which is already far below than windows 6. This is like "whatever different, is the best!"
I am sure ur brain is not developed enuf to understand what that guy has done.. or rather, is doing... so from now on, dont comment on topics you have no idea about
