Samsung has announced the launch of its "Affordable Android Smartphone" duo - Galaxy 3 and Galaxy 5 in the Indian market. The launch of these two smartphones comes just a few weeks after the deadly duo of the Galaxy S and the Wave were introduced in India. Both Samsung Galaxy 3 and Galaxy 5 boasts of Android centric features like the Layar Reality Browser - an augmented reality application that shows the user what is around him/her by displaying real time digital information, social hubs and support for almost all Google services.

Like the Galaxy S, both the phones support Swype text input and feature Samsung's updated Touchwiz 3.0 UI as well. The Galaxy 3 lets the user customize upto seven home screens. In addition, both Samsung Galaxy 3 (I5801) and Galaxy 5 (I5503) support what Samsung calls AllShare - a feature via which users can share Multimedia content between devices like the mobile and the PC as well as the TV. The phones can also function as TV QWERTY remote. Apart from that, Galaxy 3 has out-of-the-box DivX format support enabling you to watch digital videos without transcoding issues.

Let's take a look at each of the devices now.

Affordable means what exactly ? Today every smartphone priced under 30,000 in India are affordable. I think Samsung has brought out the word affordable with cheap and boring handsets. galaxy series of handsets have poor battery standards and horrible wifi. These affordable devices just have a smart browser to surf and nothing else. So why not buy the handsets priced at 3-4k INR, even they have all the same features that these above mentioned devices actually have.

I hope these two have a better fate than the much lamented but never seen on the shelves Spica i5700 phone. I hope the increase in memory of the Galaxy 3 improves performance as the Spica with OS upgrades was a laggard

Could u please suggest me the better phone to buy among Nokia C6, Sony's xperia x10 mini pro, xperia x8 or samsung galaxy 3 . I am bit confused about these phones. sony is giving android 1.6 but samsung 2.1 that to upgaradable to 2.2. So what would be the best buy? my budget is b/w 12000-17000. thanks

xperia x10 mini is one of the good phone. Sony wants to catch the market with good phone but android market is fast enough to follow. Sony lacks with small screen and outdated android version. Though X10 mini is a good phone but not upto the current market standard. Nokia C6 have almost all the features with Samsung Galaxy 3 except it has 5 MP camera, while Galaxy 3 has 3 MP, C6 has 434 MHz processor while Galaxy 3 has 667 MHz.. a lot fast CPU. C6 has Symbian OS while Galaxy 3 has Android 2.1. The market and app store is growing like anything for Android, so you can rest assured that you will keep on getting apps everyday on Android plateform. Also Galaxy 3 has office document viewer and writer which C6 does not have. Performance of Galaxy 3 is far superior and features nice, you just can't miss it. It is best phone available currently in 12K range. Current market price is 12000/- though it has mrp of 13000/-.

Go for Galaxy 3 if you are getting it for same price. Apps will be supported. Yeh, resolution is low so that's your call. :)

Galaxy 3 is superb phone, I am using for last 2 weeks and getting impressed everyday when I use. Nice phone and the best android phone available for 12 K with 667MHz processor, 3.2 inch screen and 16M colors.

I want to know whether galaxy 5 has front camera for video calling or not
Alam
,Bangalore, on Sep 06, 2010 12:32 AM
Neither Galaxy 5 nor Galaxy 3 have front camera. Both are affordable Android solutions. For Galaxy 3, the number of apps is fairly reasonable. In future, it will improve even more. And it will get Android 2.2 Froyo update too.
