Tata Teleservices has announced the launch of its latest product, the Tata Photon Wi-Fi Pocket Router, in select cities of India.

The pocket router is a device that enables multiple users and devices to share wireless Internet access whilst on the move. The Tata Photon Wi-Fi Router allows broadband Internet access speeds up to 3.1 Mbps (downlink) and 1.8 Mbps (uplink). It comes with an in-built battery that offers up to 2.5 hours of backup. It even has a RJ45 Ethernet port for local area network (LAN) support.

Claimed to be the first of its kind product, the Wi-Fi Pocket Router is being targeted at consumers who have multiple Wi-Fi laden devices. "This device allows not just Internet and e-mail access, but caters to a host of other applications as well through any Wi-Fi ready device, such as large file downloads, photographs, spreadsheets, and much more. Best of all, given its Wi-Fi capabilities, it allows multiple users to stay connected simultaneously," said Lloyd Mathias, chief marketing officer of Tata Teleservices.

The Tata Photon Wi-Fi Pocket Router will be available in four cities Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore. The device is priced at Rs. 6,500 in the open market, but is being made available at an introductory price of Rs. 4,999.

what is the wifi speed & coverage? I have used 2-3 brands of wifi router with Reliance HSD but none of them gave coverage, finally we purchased SMC 3G router which is N series, 300 Mbps & gives great wi fi coverage.
