Will bring Voice Dialing over Bluetooth, ability to save apps on external memory, and Flash 10x support
Here is some good news for Sprint's HTC EVO 4G owners! The mobile operator has announced that it will officially release Android 2.2 Froyo update for the device on August 3. Just after Google showed the next major update - Android 2.2 dubbed Froyo (Frozen Yoghurt), every Android OS based device owner wanted to enjoy it. A few lucky EVO 4G owners will get the Froyo 2.2 update tomorrow, as a part of the initial testing. While all HTC EVO 4G owners would get it by mid-August.
As per the official announcement, the Android 2.2 Froyo update for EVO 4G phones will bring Voice Dialing over Bluetooth, ability to store apps on External Memory, and Flash 10x support with improved browser performance. Android Froyo 2.2 is claimed to be four times faster than Eclair 2.1 update and also brings slew of new features. Among these, data tethering and the ability to turn the device into Wi-Fi hotspot are really significant.
When the update is made available, HTC EVO 4G users will receive a notification for download while the eager souls can easily check Settings>System Updates>HTC Software Update to get it earlier.
Of course you'll see pre-loaded widgets, 720p HD recording with flashlight assistance and Flashlight mode for LED Flash with this update. In May-end, Froyo 2.2 update was successfully ported to HTC EVO 4G but that was by an enthusiast and not official port. We already reported that Froyo 2.2 will be released for Motorola Droid, Droid X and HTC Incredible next week.
Now we have our eyes on HTC Desire HD, the reported GSM version of EVO 4G, which is expected to be released in October.
