The Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex PRO 500GB is a unique product since it allows you to be used with different data cables, instantly upgrading the interface in the process. So you can choose the one that suits you better. The dock is not just an aesthetic add-on, but is very much functional as well as convenient. The casing looks good and is strong, but it does gather fingerprints rather fast. With a 500GB capacity, it has tremendous potential as a backup drive or to be able to carry large amount of data. It comes with data backup software, which comes with encryption.
The read performance is good, but the write performance is a lot slower than most other USB 2.0 portable hard drives. But as we found out later, the drive itself is not the culprit, it was the USB 2.0 upgrade cable causing the problem and the drive works quite well with USB 3.0 and eSATA upgrade cables.
With a three-year warranty, the Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex PRO 500GB is available for Rs.7,900, which is too high a price even if the technology is innovative and convenient. You can get two 500GB portable hard drives for just about the same price.
