A graphics card that performs well but is priced too high

Very effective cooler, good OC software, build and design, low temperatures

No mini-HDMI to HDMI adapter bundled, a bit expensive

Today its MSIs turn in the hot seat as we take the N460GTX Cyclone for a spin. It shares the same DNA as the Galaxy card and comes with MSI's custom Cyclone cooler for better overclocking and their version of an overclocking tool called Afterburner.

Unfortunately, the Cyclone edition that we have today is not the 1GB version but the 768MB version. No worries though, it'll be interesting to see how much further we can go with this cooler and find out if it is better than the one from Galaxy. The specifications remain the same except for the clock speeds: 725MHz on the core, 900MHz for the memory and 1450MHz for the shaders or CUDA cores. The memory hasn't been touched and is the same as the reference specs, but the core runs at 25Hz more than that of the Galaxy card, which was 700MHz.

The MSI GTX460 comes packaged in an attractive looking box that clearly highlights the cards strong points. Thanks to the unique cooler, MSI claims to have reduced the fan noise by 16%, thanks to a larger 9cm PWM fan that pumps out 40% more air. We'll surely verify this when we test the card, but first let's look at the bundle.

Bundle

  • Installation manual
  • Driver CD
  • DVI to HDMI adapter
  • DVI to VGA adapter
  • Two 6-pin to Molex power adapters

This is a bit odd; MSI does not provide a mini-HDMI to HDMI adapter, which means you'll have to buy that separately.
