Finding government help online can be menace if the government has different websites for different services. Residents of Gujarat now get a single stop portal for all e-Governance services. The portal was inaugurated by State Minister Jaynarayan Vyas who assured that more than 50 Government-to-Citizen services would be made available to residents of state, Sify News reported.

Via Gujarat's new e-Governance portal, applications like VAT (Value Added Tax) information, (hospital management), e-dhara (revenue records), e-procurement, swagat (public grievance portal), jan suvidha kendra at district collectorates and city civic centres in municipal corporations can be accessed. All these services are available in the state's heavily spoken regional language Gujarati.

Vyas said, "The decision to put all services in a single portal is due to the fact that IT connectivity in Gujarat is now reaching villages and most of the departments are likely to have client groups in the villages."

The portal would offer standardized content, printable forms with barcodes, repository of documents, public grievances, and SMS as well as email integration. Of course users can access various important service websites like High Court, railways, state government welfare schemes, treasury and passport too.

As the Internet user base is increasing across the country, it's time that every state has an e-governance portal of its own.
