With India announcing a new symbol for its currency - Rupee, people have been working overtime to bring it to the next obvious place your PC.
A Mangalore based company Foradian Technologies has already made a new font available for users who would like to use the new Rupee symbol on their computers. While the sign may take time to be adopted by Unicode, that doesn't mean you should not be using the font all the while.
The font, available for download here. Foradian has also posted instructions as to how the Rupee symbol can be used in your computer for various applications including MS Excel, Lotus Notes, Silverlight, Blend and Visual Studio. They even have versions for Linux and Mac users.
Foraadian's posterous blog has all the details you need to use the new Rupee symbol on your PC.
New rupee symbol can be used in word by am unable to use it as currency in excel. There fore if added as symbol it does not allow me to do numeric operation of add, sub, multiply etc with the number. I will be thankful if u have a solution.
i downloaded it a week back . I have following observations to share..
It works perfectly well in small and medium font size (from 7 to 20). But when one tries to enlarge the symbol to a font size of say 40, it literally vanishes.
Every organisation has a policy to print the docs in a certain font. (We use Century Gothic in my office). When we bulk format the document, we select all (ctrl A) and apply formatting, right? SO when you are using Rupee symbol in document and you bulk format the document for a font change, you loose the Rupee symbol also.
You can use "More" in Find and Replace to replace the font for " ` " in entire document.
Steps:
press CTRL + H
type ' in "Find What"
type ' in "Replace With"
click More >>
click Format > Font...
Select font "Rupee Foradian"
Click Ok
Click Replace All
Hey, thank you very much for providing the Rupee Symbol for computers as font file.
It is very nice a solution.
Hope Unicode accepts the new Rupee Symbol soon.
