Vodafone to bring iPhone 4 to India

Techtree News Staff, Jun 09, 2010 1503 hrs IST

Hopefully, it will hit the Indian markets by September

Now that the iPhone 4 has been officially revealed and is readying itself for launch in U.S., France, Germany, Japan and UK this very month, people in India were left perplexed whether it will ever make it to India any time soon.

With the iPhone 3GS having introduced just a few months ago in India, the launch of a new iPhone model in India looked unlikely. However, since Apple has stopped sales of the iPhone 3G (which was also sold in India alongside the 3GS), it is likely that the iPhone 3GS would take the place of its older brother relinquishing its post to make way for the iPhone 4.

The reason for all this sudden talk about the iPhone 4 coming to India sooner than expected is because Vodafone India has confirmed that it would bring the iPhone 4 to India "in the coming months". While the time frame of the launch is still under wraps, it is likely that it would be sometime in September when the iPhone 4 would be launched in over 80 countries across the globe.

We're now wondering when Airtel would issue such a statement. Nevertheless, the iPhone 4's official launch in India might not be that far ahead in the future! Watch this space for more!

Vodafone & Airtel suck!!! Iphones in India are locked to these carriers despite of the fact that no subsidy is being given on the initial cost of the phone. In US, AT&T bears almost 50% of the initial cost so that Iphone is made accessible to all. Airtel & Vodafone lack that strategy. Iphone 4G will be launched for 40K + in India. They really suck!!!!!!

Can't blame them really. AT&T is able to recover the cost of the subsidy through their voice and data plan charges. Here, voice charges are ridiculously low (mind, i'm quite happy with that). They can't afford that kind of subsidy. However, they SHOULD have sold the phones unlocked.

The best option will be to go for the latest Nokia X6 (16GB Version) with far better open-ended features and higher resolution camera and awesome sound with wi-fi, GPS and TV-Out and costing just 16k. iPhone 4 is slated to cost 40,000 INR upwards in India...Total waste !!

There is no much use of Iphone without 3G data plan and both are going to be very costly.. The iphone is not build by keeping in mind indian customers. its useless in india

Not interested.. We have seen "the beyond reach prices" of its previous models.. probably it would be a few more thousand costly.. My Samsung Corby doing fine job so far :-)

What ever these companies do, i don't think they would ever create a possibility of me buying a iPhone...
