Using same Open iBoot boot loader, the calling and SMS works fine
Two months back, Android was successfully ported on the iPhone. And now, the most recent Android 2.2 Froyo update was ported on iPhone 3G by Italian bloggers of iDroid. The geeky guys used same OpeniBoot boot loader to make Android run on the iPhone 3G.
Now that iDroid bloggers have found a way to port the recent Android 2.2 Froyo update on the iPhone 3G, all the Android based smartphone owners must be gritting their teeth for that. Why? They're yet to get the Froyo update officially! So far, Froyo port on iPhone allows calling and sending SMS. The Wi-Fi and sound support will take a while but not too long, we suppose.
Apparently, Italian Droid guys have posted a guide if you wish to try it out yourself.
Remember, trying to port Android on your iPhone voids your device's warranty and hence you better be sure of what you're doing. This Froyo port on iPhone indeed is amazing since - a) Google is yet to release Froyo update and b) Apple is expected to release iPhone OS 4.0 at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2010 that starts in less than 20 hours. Let's wait to see what does Apple have inside its coat.
