New Dashboard view shows statistics of the locations where you have been
Google has updated its Dashboard feature for avid Maps users who've opted Latitude and Location History services. The new Location History Dashboard keeps a tab on the locations where you had been through Latitude subscription. Users get to see their location data history for specific days and can even pin point the data in the Dashboard view.
Google Location History feature is opt-in and users have to enable this service. New Dashboard view will show you the data trends of the locations you've visited during particular time frame. Google Latitude service which runs in the background on your smartphones caches your location and shows it to you later on the Dashboard. The data on the Dashboard is represented in a more compelling way such as it shows the number miles travelled by the user.
Dashboard relies on more data for better statistics. For instance, if you've been using Latitude from home to work then the Dashboard will show you how many times and where did you stop for a break or to grab a bite.
Privacy of data is user's biggest concern and Google promises to keep them private. The data on the Dashboard can be viewed only by the user and cannot be shared with anyone.
To try out this new Dashboard, you got to first enable Google Latitude on your smartphone and keep it running in the background. Of course it will use the Data Connection of your phone. Then, you got to enable Location History which will keep the track of locations you've visited using Latitude service. Just in case you want to, you may erase your location history any point of time.
