Apple CEO responds to user queries, assures a good show at developer event next month

Looks like Apple's followers just got a bit worried after Google overwhelmed the world with the Android 2.2 update announcement. One such soul, Bryan Webster, emailed Steve Jobs if Apple is going to reply back to Google's announcement at the Worldwide Developers Conference, reported MacRumors. To this, Apple CEO replied, "You won't be disappointed". Looks like Apple certainly would be sweeping the world off its feet - with the iPhone 4G launch, we suppose.

The Android Froyo spectacle at Google I/O conference last week has certainly attracted many potential mobile phone buyers' attention. Not only that, native as well as web browser based support for Flash and HTML5 to Android phones has got many Apple fans think if they were missing out on something. However, the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference starts on June 7 and a bunch of interesting announcements are anticipated on the iPhone front.

Gizmodo had given a detailed account of how Google had leapfrogged Apple. A concerned guy named Brian (could be Gizmodo's Brian Lam, who knows), mailed Steve Jobs and asked:

Dear Steve,
Have you read this Gizmodo article? What are your thoughts on it? Do you believe Google is surpassing you guys or do you believe something different? What do you plan on doing if Google is surpassing Apple?

Any thoughts?

Sincerely,
Brian

And as usual, Steve Jobs replied with minimal but powerful words - Not a chance.

So Apple certainly does have some fireworks stored for the June 7 and we know it's going to be new iPhone 4G. Let's hope that announcement also brings along something many users have been seeking since long - iPhone Tethering.

Self confidence is one thing, But arrogance, how far can it take you?

Tethering is only a problem in the USA, namely because of AT&T. I live in Switzerland, and I can use tethering with my Macs and my PC

Apple will be gone in ten years? I remember hearing that 20 years ago. The media was certain of it.

They won't be gone but they will lose the phone war just as they lost the pc war. The writing's already on the wall for anyone smart enough to see.

Let's face it - it's a lot easier to design the 'second wheel'. Once you've worked hard on coming up with the original design, it's dead easy for someone else to design their own version of the wheel. Apple did all the hard work on touch screens and interfaces (remember those awful stylus phones that people used to use before the iPhone) and Google has ridden their coat tales to some extent. Microsoft will soon jump on the wave now that Apple and Google have done all their R&D. What we're seeing now is better, more refined 'wheels', and it will be a while before a totally new wheel is invented.

The techies are trying their best to make this into a two or three horse race; but the the bottom line speaks for itself- it's a one horse race with Apple leading by four lengths or more the finish line with strides. It's all about the Benjamin's and Apple's the only clear the front runner by a country mile!

Why the heck would Apple and iPhone loyalists give a damn about Android 2.2? Google doesn't make a penny from Android. I doubt if Google is even that committed to the Android platform like Steve Jobs is to his personal mobile platform. Maybe the iPhone won't have all the features that the HTC EVO 4G has but the iPhone will surely outsell it from the get-go. iPhone OS 4.0 will be solid as a brick and users will be more than satisfied with its capabilities. Does Apple really seem to be that weak in analyst's eyes that Google and Android are just going to roll over Apple because their mobile devices run Flash? Android will dominate the low-end mobile market and Apple will make billions of dollars at the high-end. Once Apple gets its server farm/cloud storage working, the Apple mobile platform will be almost impossible to beat. Forget Google. They have easier targets to shoot at than Apple. Like Nokia, RIM, Windows Phone 7, etc. They're Android fodder.

The new iphone will have 5MP camera, 3G for data, a slightly bigger screen and USB3. Heh. No doubt the 4th Gen iphone will have 3g to make it's name confusing and misleading, and it's hardware will be 12 months behind the current leaders, just like all apple products. I have used an iphone 3GS and I liked it, but I also found some of it's quirks to be very frustrating. Some of the time it's very user friendly, however some of the time it is very hard to use and doesn't work as expected. I'm currently stuck with the choice of the iphone 3GS or a top Google Android phone like the HTC Desire. They both have positives and negatives. It's a PITA! I would like to know what's coming in the next 4 months, then I could make my decision or hold off for something I would really like.

Except in some minor areas (major to Apple), Google has already beat Apple by a longshot. The big question is whether Google can beat Microsoft. That's probably "not a chance", but we'll see. Apple will be gone within 10 years, much like The Sharper Image that sold similar overpriced, useless, trendy stuff.

Beat Microsoft in the mobile market? As the old saying goes: That's not a tall hill to climb. Sunny Guy

I'd love to hear exactly why Brian Webster thinks competition is a bad thing. "Fuck the google android team"? I don't get it. If anything, Google going full-force on Android is the greatest gift Google could give iPhone users, forcing big improvements on that platform.

no one like developers that turn into facists, which is what apple have become. they need a slap and putting in their place as a niche developer

As more and more people migrate to Android as I did and realize it is not the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, I'm sure Apple will sell even more Iphones...I have an Android and I can't wait to get rid of it, I'll buy the new iphone the day it's released and never look back. Google likes to make a lot of noise about how open they are with apps etc, what they don't tell you is they allow just about any glitch filled non performing apps you download to infect your phone...Most ALL apps I have downloaded from them crash my phone, cause it to turn off at will, force close constantly or they just don't work period...Then there's always the question of will this app work with my phone or is this app for a different version of Android which you usually find out only after it doesn't work ....Is this the great "open" they speak of at Google? What they are doing is letting any app developer that can throw some code together ruin the user experience...Apple on the other hand does everything possible to make sure the app developers don't destroy the user experience by releasing sub-par garbage and subsequently blaming the bad user experience on the Apple product. If peiole want to whine that Apple is closed that's fine with me, I prefer to live in a nice gated community that is safe and very well maintained than to live outside under the bridge with the dregs of society...

Tethering is so 2009. The most desired feature and therefore most likely to announce is ::::::::::::enter Steve stage right ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;iphone wifi hotspot support . [as provided by the Verizon Palm Pre].

Seeing as how the iPad and iAd were their latests HUGE announcements *rolleyes* I am expecting something along the line of Iphone OS4 which key features include a prettier design, more ways to block non-apple content, a 4g Iphone, with a HD screen and a 8mp camera, but besides that nothing really new. So basicly...a HUGE MEGA announcement ......for the Apple fans...and a HUGE MEGA dissapointment for the sane ppl in the world

So now the iPhone will be able to share their crappy AT&T connection with others? YAY! Now everyone can experience the sub-par service of AT&T. Way to go Steve.

Leaving the iPhone June 4. Going to Sprint HTC Evo running Android. Sorry, Steve, I'm over the limited iPhone OS and closed system. I'm so excited for my new entry into Android.

What, no MobileMe? So this guy uses GMail, to send a mail to Mr. Jobs!, to complain about Google!! :) And I would think Mr. Jobs would have more dignity than to reply such a vulgar mail.

Apple became another Microsoft, and any new product they are going to come up with will be more locked up than previous one. I've been OSX fan for long time, and also have purchased an iphone hoping to develop some apps for it, but man was I wrong... Open Source is a future, and if Google keeps Android opened they will win this battle...

How about the ability to use the phone on multiple carriers? That would be the only announcement that I would be interested in hearing. AT&T sucks horribly and, as long as they have exclusive rights then you can count me out.

You are all like children, "no my toy is better!" you all defend a phone like you're the one who created it, you do you just need constant justification that you didnt waste your money?

It will still have only Apple "approved" apps with what Steve Jobs believes that you should have. While im sure the hardware and device capabilities are getting ramped up, the platform just reeks of being "closed". Ill stick with Android and the ability to make my own choices. Hopefully someday it will change for their user base.
