    Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10

Rohan Naravane, May 21, 2010 1152 hrs IST

XPERIA gets a new treatment inside and outside, but will this reworked formula win many hearts?

Big 4-inch display, slim and lightweight (despite the brick-like appearance), easy to use media application (MediaScape), unique timescape application, turn by turn navigation app included

LED flash could have been more powerful, DivX/XviD support removed despite big screen and powerful hardware, average quality earphones bundled, currently runs on older Android 1.6

More than two years ago, the world was left stunned with the announcement of a new product line by Sony Ericsson - the XPERIA. Eventually, the buzz died down and when we actually got the first device (the XPERIA X1) in our hands, we weren't even close to being blown away by it. Time passed by and so did XPERIA from the minds of many. The XPERIA X2 was launched last year, which improved on certain facets like the camera and DivX/XviD playback, but was trashed for having slow hardware that made Windows Mobile on it crawl. Also, Sony Ericsson couldn't spawn Microsoft's stylus-era OS into something fairly usable as HTC could with their phones.

But now we have a completely redesigned XPERIA; both from the inside and outside. Probably that's why SE felt that this phone deserved to be coveted with a two-digit alphanumeric name  - the X10 - instead of calling it the X3 or something.

So has Sony Ericsson's efforts paid off into creating a highly desirable phone? Or will it slowly bite the dust like its predecessors?

The bundle includes the X10 phone, 1500 mAh battery, charger with attachable USB cable, bass reflex earphones, an 8GB microSD card and instruction manual.

I got this phone recently.. and the all the features are very poor... not even worth of 10k. This is trye.. worst phone I have ever used.. No flash at the camera.. it is using Photo light instead which is not good at all for night time... Waste speakers.. even 1000 rupees mobile give good sound than this. Waste Battery life... No idea how Sony Ericsson made this cheap mobile to cheat people. Guys ,before buying this mobile , you have think 100 times.. or call me I can give the better review than this ppl who r giving just for the sake of SE. Dont believe this reviews.. call me at +91 9160001791

This Phone does not justify it's price. I purchased this phone (Experia X10) for its looks and screen size. These are OK, but the rest is just a piece of shit. The earphone output is unbelievably low. The same is with the built in speaker. Forget picking calls in crowed places, you just can't hear. It does not come with front camera for video call, which is the most soughed feature with 3G networks and above. It also does not come with built in FM. You will have to buy accessory to listen to FM. 1GHz processor is not enough if you open couple of apps. To get to dial pad takes easy 15 sec, and the wait is unbelievably slow. I would not recommend this phone even to my enemies.

I dont agree with the Expert Rating of 3/5 here. I would at least say 4.5/5! I have been using this phone since few days. This is the best smart-phone I have ever seen. Even, looking at my elder brother's costly i-phone 3GS and it's features, Xperia X10 is better. After the free upgrade of it's OS from Adriod 1.6 to 2.1 or 2.x (coming b4 year end 2010), this phone will easily take on iphone-4, which is almost double in cost as compared to x10. There are thousands of free apps on "Market" for download. Number of apps is growing every day. Picture, Video and Audio quality is gr8 as expected from Sony Ericsson, even with Andriod 1.6! Expect more quality, colors and killer features when u get the free upgrade of latest adroid OS in near future. Game ON!

its bit above my budget. I was toying between N86 (probably not available anymore), S Ericsion Vivaz, N97 mini, s Ericsion W995 (prob this too not available anymore). My requirement is i will NOT be using any internet feature, but will be using a lot for best quality music, photos, videos, PIM features. Any recommendations? (I havent seen review in vivaz yet :( )

In that case, the N86 is a decent option, except for video playback. Camera is one of the best i've seen, video recording's pretty decent too. So is the audio quality. If you want good video playback, then consider the Samsung Jet 2. Rs. 13,500 -- non-smart-phone, but good audio and video.

I've had the phone for a month now....I advice u to update the software and then check the music quality,, its really amazing and the headphones are really good ones. The only problem is that its volume is a little low...and about the battery...try switching off the wireless networks in the location menu that'll improve it....The video performance is amazing for a phone and have no complaints with the 1.6...Its super stable ;)

Rohan, What is the Camera UI like? Does the X10 have the same camera controls available in Cybershot phones?

Yes, it is similar to prior Cybershot camera-phones. Check the User Interface video on page 3 to see it.

Wtf,Milestone is better than x10? I had compared both phone in Croma. X10 over Milestone- 1.Great design. 2.Bigger Screen. 3.8mp vs 5mp, 135gm vs 165gm. 4.Timescape,Mediascape,good battery. Milestone over x10-- 1.Qwerty keyboard. 2.Rs 2500 cheaper. Then I bought X10 & live Happily ever After.

Milestone is an alternative to a potential android buyer with a budget of Rs. 30,000. To counter your points: 1) Great design (X10) - Subjective matter, 2) Bigger screen - Yes, but by just 0.3 inches over the milestone. That's not a big diff. Like i said, the X10 is a decent phone and congratulations for your purchase

Also, don't go by megapixel numbers. The Milestone's 5 megapixel snapper can also take as decent snaps as well.

Jesus.....another statistics shopper.... Get a life bro.... A phone purchase's intemsley personal. You don't just compare specs on a gadget which you're gona use the most... you just see if it works out for you. Specs are gr8, but they're hardly a yardstick to go by. As Rohan said, don't go by MP numbers. They don't mean a thing nowadays. The MP race has officially ended, you know.

Main problem with x10 is that its 2.1 éclair update will come in Q4 2010 and by that time milestone, desire and legend will get 2.2 froyo or may be even gingerbread. Software support of Sony-Ericsson and are both very bad. Best software support is provided by Nokia and HTC. both are still supporting phones released before 2-3 years.

X10's gettin an update to Android v2.1? At the end of the year?!!! You gotta be kiddin. Froyo (v.2.2)'s already out. Who are they pullin the wool on?? SE's slippin. Also, this thang doesn't have equalisers. Galaxy Spica does. Milestone does. Poof!!! Sony Ericsson, you sucketh nowadays.

Have been sing the X-10 for nearlt a month now and feel terribly disappointed. For a phone of its price the older version of Android (1.6) is a sire point. Even Milestone has a later version. The Camera is not nearly as good as expected. The sound quality too is much inferior to most other SE Phones. Mo LED Flash. No Dual Camera (in today's age of MMSetc. The Battery Life is outrageous. My X-10 with minimum daily use (almost lying idle) whole day requires a charge late every evening even after a full charge. Less said about SE's after-sales and Customer Care the better. You are absolutely on your own. A total disappointment and waste of money.

Dude. You seriously need some introspection.its one of the crappiest reviews I have seen. If you are a sony Ericsson fan and like the camera..WTH!! This phone is getting HD recording for christs sake in the future. The camera is awesome and better than any android cam out there. So hold your horses and make a proper review before publishing it. Milestone?Meh!!! Snapdragon vs Cortex. oh yea.I have a X10 and love it.
