    After Facebook, Pakistan Blocks YouTube

Techtree News Staff, May 20, 2010 1524 hrs IST

    For broadcasting objectionable anti-Islamic content

    mail share

Yesterday, we reported that Facebook has been blocked in Pakistan for hosting a competition about Islamic Prophet Muhammed's caricatures. Today, YouTube has been blocked in Pakistan because of its 'growing sacrilegious content'. Boy! That sounds like an Internet meltdown in Pakistan as two of the most heavily used websites have been blocked.

Pakistan Telecommunications Authority did not point out any specific videos or content on popular video sharing site YouTube. The only reason given was the growing sacrilegious content which was claimed to be quite objectionable. All started with "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day", a competition scheduled on the Facebook website.

Khoram Ali Mehran of the telecommunication authority, said, "Obviously (the blocking of Facebook) is related to the objectionable material that was placed on Facebook. That is why it is blocked. We have blocked it for an indefinite amount of time. We are just following the government's instructions and the ruling of the Lahore High Court. If the government decides to unblock it, then that's what we will do."

In an official statement, Pakistan Telecommunications Authority stated - The government took action against both Facebook and YouTube after it failed to persuade the websites to remove the "derogatory material". Two representatives from Facebook and YouTube were going to contact the Pakistan Government for resolving the dispute by ensuring "religious harmony and respect".

Not just Facebook and YouTube, but the Internet regulatory body of Pakistan has blocked about 450 Internet sites (for hosting alleged offensive material) in the last two days. Beat that!

First learn to respect other religions then expect others to respect yours, this is something that was supposed to happen and will continue till you folks come out of you dark age beliefs .... Today if Islam has a bad reputation is because ppl who follow it has allowed it happen ..... Clean your house first then try to cleanse the world

i frankly dont give a diddly about that kind'a freedom that gives some morons the right to ridicule others beleifs... irrespective of religion .... such societies are definitely heading to their doom... e.g.. egyptians, turks, romans as well as greeks... one can only hope that the next giant will understand the mistakes that were made before her. oh and thumbs up to LHR HC!!! finally... something to commend!!

You guys really need to chill out man... Just cause someone is narrow minded and ridicules something related to your religion doesn't mean you gotta break al ties with everyone of their cast or ban them.. Just cause all terrorists are muslims doesn't mean I won't befriend a muslim... And the entire world has that mentality.. It's just that you guys don't have the same mentality towards the world.

The Givt of Pakistan has an attitude of an OSTRICH on the run."If I can't see you you can't see me".It is ricidulous the enforce and internet melt down.It will be appreciated even more if they ban terrorist organisations that run their activities from their soil.

Now you people can see the Power and the Unity of Muslims. The ban will not be raised from facebook until the group creator of that blasphemous group apologize for his/her act.

Pakistan has banned facebook and youtube big deal, just because these two sites are banned in pakistan or in all of the muslim world doesn't mean that these sites will go down the drain. Why dont you all understand that its just a platform what ppl do with it is their choice.... First learn to respect other religions then expect others to respect yours, this is something that was supposed to happen and will continue till you folks come out of you dark age beliefs .... Today if Islam has a bad reputation is because ppl who follow it has allowed it happen ..... Clean your house first then try to cleanse the world

You guys give lot of respect to god(which is not there) but don't respect life of other human beings. Then what is the use???? and what U r trying to prove??? Think about it...did you choose Islam? What if you were born in some other religion. Open your minds!!

Pakistan is drooping too low. Its gonna blow shit. Many religions are offended in Youtube. No shit, christianity will be the most offended religion on Youtube. Should USA ban it then? From the whole world? All these countries which ban a site for silly reasons have no right attitude. They should review their constitution immediately.

What amazes me, thinking, to what lengths a human(?) may go to support his beliefs...for something that he has never seen or felt... take lives, give lives...what for... for an afterlife...and pleasing who? deeds that supersede common sense.... I wish these religious dilholes have a realization someday...

No doubt that facebook is popular site for me. Freedom of express does not mean to hurt someones feelings. Some extremists (especially from Europe and America) want clash between religions and facebook, youtube etc is providing a platform to them.

I am so tired of the superstitious morons ( of any religion) that believe in any of this hocus pocus mumbo jumbo and seek to impose their primitive world view on others. If you want to believe that the world is carried on the back of a giant turtle, or that burning bushes can talk, or that the dead can come back to life, or that 40 virgins are waiting in heaven to serve the righteous, go right ahead, but keep your insane and illogical beliefs to yourselves and leave the rest of us alone!
