    HTC Smart

Prasad Naik, May 12, 2010 1330 hrs IST

HTC's budget touchscreen phone that runs its proprietary OS

HTC Sense UI is attractive and user friendly, decent number of features, powerful loudspeaker

Expensive, no GPS or Wi-Fi, unimpressive web browser, sluggish performance of Java apps, no accelerometer for auto UI rotation

The HTC Smart is HTC's first non-smartphone device. Yes, it has neither Windows Mobile nor Android, but something called Brew OS, which has been developed by Qualcomm. HTC has also added their excellent Sense UI skin to come up with a budget touchscreen phone to take on the Corbys and Cookies of the low-end touchscreen phone world. But is the Sense UI capable enough to take on this challenge without a powerful OS backing it? Is the HTC Smart smart enough for the users to consider it over established rivals?

Never buy this phone. HTC has supplied the battery taking from the roadside dustbin. The operating system is slow. It can not read the memory card. The phone often hangs.

I purchased this phone seven days ago. But I am not satisfied with the bad performance of this phone. It hangs frequently and I have to take out the battery and insert again. Moreover, it restarts now and then. It is an irritating experience for me. Oftenly I see on the screen : :oops, an error has ocurred, it is restarting...". The sound quality during attending calls is very low. It is being hard to response the incoming calls on the street. Above all, the battery back up is the worst. If I talk for 5 miniutes, the battery is exhausted 50%. At 10 pm I charged the battery fully. Then I went to sleep. In the morning I found the battery 90% exhausted. Battery problem is so much acute that I feel cheated. It is said that the talk time is 450 minutes. But when I complained to the HTC through email, they answered that the talk time is 240 minutes only !! But in my experience, the talk time is 20 minutes. Every one is requested to avoid such a terrible phone. I now repent to buy this phone. HTC has robbed my hard earned money.

Come on this is not so bad.....it is better than samsung as i have a 3 handset experience and none of them lasts than 1 and a half year so i think smart is 100 times better than S samsung in its range........................i loved HTC smart and i have one........its a bit expensive but i would recommend it over corby

Typo on the 1st page <with themselves. HTV has> But is the Sense UI capable enough to take on this challenge without a powerful OS backing it? Is the HTC Smart smart enough for the users to consider it over established rivals? Is it a review or some Balaji's soap? with not one, but two freeze frame questions.

How does it compare with Samsung Jet 2 (8003)?

The Smart does not come close to matching the functionality of the Jet.

Brew OS has not been done by HTC. It is a Qualcomm OS which has been used by HTC since it comes free with the Qualcomm chipset which the phone is running on.
