Janco Assocoiates, a management consulting firm, has released data regarding Browser and Operating System Market Share. While the tale regarding the browsers looks familiar, when it comes to the Operating Systems, there is a major revelation.
Windows 7, in just seven months since its release, holds 14.8 percent of the OS market. This takes the number of people using Windows 7 more than the number of people using Vista, the older OS from Microsoft.
Janco CEO Victor Janulaitis quips, "There are now more users of Windows 7 than Vista. That is a major factor in their improved record earnings. The last OS that was accepted as quickly in the market was XP. Vista's market share has peaked and is in the process of being decommissioned in most enterprises." Janulaitis added, "The last six months have been a mixed bag for Microsoft. While they have good news on the OS front, their browser market share has fallen to the level that it was in 1998."
As for the browser market, Microsoft continues to lose its grip. Internet Explorer lost 3.7 percent of its market share. Firefox is stable with its share at a steady 17.8 percent. As for Google (Chrome and Google Desktop), accounts for a decent 5.4 percent of the share. The top five browser market share rankings are: Microsoft's IE 67.73 percent; Firefox 17.88 percent; Google (Desktop & Chrome) 5.40 percent; Mozilla 1.36 percent; and Safari 0.98 percent.
I think Mozilla is not a browser, Firefox is the browser of Mozilla.
Also how come opera is not here?
Feels like this stats is incorrect.
Techtree should be somewhat sensible now considering the fact that it now shares a perominent position in Google news...
Let the MS reduce the price say 1500-2000 everyone will buy. few year back ppl normally will not buy Anti virus. Kapsersky few ppl brought down to 3 user 600 - 800rs, i found many ppl started using original AV. MS ppl bring down price you will see the difference, you market share will go up ...............
Microsoft ppl and other PC Hardware manufacturer making monopoly business. Many laptops or Desktops now coming with only Win 7. When I purchase my new HP laptop, I asked for installing Win XP, they ppl said I can install XP with my own risk, they won't give support (drivers/software install) for Lower End OS other than Win 7. So, such situations, ppl will not get alternative other than Win 7.
I recently wiped out Windows XP on my ageing 8 year old laptop (1.7Ghz Centrino 2GB) and replaced it with Windows 7 and have no regrets. I'm surpirsed at how fast it is running once I upgraded RAM to 2GB. I now have faster boot up shut down times than even XP, faster Internet browsing, faster and easier access to data via homegroups and libraries. Plus the new file explorer is a God send and file searching just plain rocks - overall a great upgrade from XP.
Vista is the useless OS ever i have seen. W7 is written on top of XP. So there is no much difference b/w XP and W7 functionality wise. GUI looks good. Even if we want to do such things its looks same as XP.
I recently bought a new PC with Windows 7 OS and i can experience the difference between Vista and W7. W7 is clutter free and quite fast (could be due to the Intel chip too). It is now almost a month of use and I don't have any issues with the OS. Btw iam also using their Windows Security essential. It is not only free it also does protects the PC as good as my old Norton which I had to pay for.
This is so unfair, I bought a genuine windows vista ultimate for a huge price when MS pushed for vista. Now I feel so bad, the laptop which has vista is practically unusable and I need to pay huge price to upgrade in less than 2 years. how is it an achievement that 7 went ahead of vista ?
windows provide some unique features more than vista. it offers a lot. one thing that attract me is that it create all partitions into primary drive so that you can install windows in any drive(if space available) without formating that drive. it helps a lot for data recovery. and provide many more.
What a load of garbage. Windows 7 is essentially Vista with a bit of tweaks here & there a bit more streamlined.
FYI I used Vista after a month it launched. I never ever faced any problem upto this day with it. I still use it on one of my computers.
Granted you needed 2 GB RAM minimum to run the 32-Bit version. Back in 2006 that was a pretty big deal I suppose but don't blame Microsoft for that.
Please everyone is out to make money the DRAM manufacturers blatantly upped their prices. They did the same thing when Windows 7 launched. It's as simple as that.
Blaming Microsoft for everything won't give you a good nights sleep :P
Also talking about driver incompatibilities well they still do exist for Windows 7 as well. Once again don't blame Microsoft for that, As far as I know Windows Vista's release candidate/beta versions was floating around well before a Year it's release. Blame the manufacturers off the devices for being lazy & not coding/making their devices compatible.
It's as simple as that.
The next point on buying original or pirated. It's all down to you basically.
Yes you will be able to use pirated software one way or the other even if MS upped their checks, people will find a way one way or the other.
It's down to a person's individuality eg. Some people will pay more for a Samsung/Nokia mobile phone where as some people will be happy with a Chinese Unbranded phone.
Which one are you is upto you.
I do not work for Microsoft in any way or the other either so keep your opinions to yourself. I'm just forwarding my point of view.
All the best.
correct..its been the habit of users to blame the operating system for driver incompatibilities. writing drivers is the responsibility of hardware developer..making them compatible is alsotheir duty..blaming os maker is a bad thing..as far as vista is concerned..i m using it since 1 year, it came as preinstalled..it was buggy all because of the bloatware installed by laptop manufacturer..since i uninstalled them vista is running good..never crashed..however many older programs refused to run on vista...still not their fault..development takes its toll..
Windows 7 or Windows Vista or Windows XP > Whatever, India holds the market. Many pirated users here. But still those who buy legal software and register it are counted in fools. Simply because the pirated users have no bother with police or cyber-crime department. They can easily manipulate the things with Indian Government policies and principles. Few months back I have mailed the details of the same to Microsoft India, but they are happy in their growth - taking no care of pirates.
Window vista--> 1 problem daily for 6 months
Windows 7 --> 1 problem in 6 months.
This is why. Windows 7 is much better than vista.
IE s**ks. Mozilla Firefox is too much better.
one of my PC is using windows 7 on my 10 year old pantium 4 that too on onboard graphics of old intel 845 mobo with 1.5GB ram and its runing just fine leaving the eye candy.but who cares about aero as all other functions are running as they should be running. I had to run graphics drivers on win 95 compatibility mode during installations as software support for my mobo had ended long back.
