Frazier Barretto, Apr 30, 2010 1410 hrs IST

A desktop speaker solution that's worth the moolah

Good build, good deep thumping bass, crystal clear highs, 3.5mm jack for audio input, MIC & headphone jack on control pod

No wireless remote, no treble control, expensive

It was only two weeks ago that we reviewed the Bose Companion 2 Series II, and today we bring you one of their 2.1 speaker systems - the Bose Companion 3 Series II. This is the base 2.1 model from Bose for a computer speaker system. The other model - the Bose Companion 5 - has already been reviewed by us. Being a base 2.1 model doesn't mean that Bose has in any way taken a step back in providing a great sound solution for your PC. We can still expect a lot from this system in comparison to what many PC peripheral manufacturers have to offer.

Dear Mr. Reviewer, in a speaker review you've spent 3 pages describing the looks of each unit of the speaker but spent only 1 paragraph actually talking about the performance. Where's the frequency vs Decibel graph, to tell us at what frequencies it rolls off? Where's the Kill-A-Watt device to measure peak power consumption(not a good idea though but still might give some approximation on the power consumed). I mean, calling the website 'techtree' is pointless unless you have a detailed technical review. Sorry to point out, but I think you need to learn a lot from anandtech...

Samrat, BOSE is simply overpriced with a quality which a good speaker from any other vendor can give at 3000 Rs for 2.1. This overpricing and hidding specs strategy make people like you think that BOSE is GOD of sounds. Today only two kind of people go for Bose, one who are just overwhelmed by the name itself ,, kinda "Naam hee kafi hai''... and second who get it as it is a status symbol to have Bose.

You Idiots are writing a speaker review. You can specify the dimention of the speakers but don't even about care to mention the power rating of the speakers and the sub.

We can only provide the specifications of the product if we get them from the manufacturers and Bose does not feel like sharing the power ratings of their speakers with anyone.

Ankit, in case if you are in doubt, visit your nearest BOSE outlet. Not a single salesman would be willing to share power ratings. I believe they themselves do not know these figures.

I really didn't mean to be rude. If anyone is interested in quality speakers check out the likes of Swan M200MkII, Audioengine A2. Granted there are not bass heavy but have true reproduction of music.

Bose would have to put Pricing in India on line with US prices- like most hardware and mobiles- in US this is $250 i.e. Rs 9200 and at that price this item is value for money. BTW Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX Certified Computer Speakers for almost half the money are much better set of speakers.

Ankit, look at the size of the control pod and guestimate.
