Camera clad iPod Touch Prototypes Hit eBay

iPod Touch prototypes with camera and official Apple labels listed on eBay

Just when the buzz about the "real" iPhone 4G seemed to settle down a bit, two prototypes of iPod Touch with camera were spotted on eBay by 9to5Mac. The images of the iPod Touch clearly showed camera on the back side and also carried label - DVT which stands for Design Verification Test. That means both iPod Touch Devices are prototypes. Running the iPhone OS test software -Switchboard (Apple's iPhone OS testing software), one of the iPod Touch devices had 'Apple Development Team' sticker labeled on its back panel. However, the listing was removed from eBay later.

Looks like someone is trying to either sell an iPod Touch with camera knock offs, or simply seeking attention with such visual gimmicks.

Last year, images of the iPod Touch with camera had showed up on the Internet out of nowhere. However, Apple launched the iPod Touch 3G sans camera later. It was reported that Apple dropped out the camera modules from iPod Touch 3G due to some hardware failure. Later, when iPod Touch 3G was ripped apart, space for a camera was discovered. Hence, it was presumed that Apple was indeed planning a camera based iPod Touch but got faced issues to release it as final product.

Apple released the iPod Touch 3G in September 2009 and as per the yearly product update cycle, we may expect the fourth generation iPod Touch with a camera this year. We wonder if Microsoft is also planning something similar for Zune lineup this year too. Would you be interested in a Zune HD with camera? Oh well, Microsoft doesn't ship it outside U.S. Bummer.
