Will Skyfire make it to the App Store like Opera Mini did?
When Apple approved Opera Mini for the iPhone and the iPod touch earlier this week, we knew it was sure to create many repercussions. One amongst those was the possibility of other browsers making a beeline in order to enter the hitherto "closed" app store.
Well, just as we mentioned in our Opera Mini article yesterday, browser developer Skyfire has, in a blog post expressed interest (indirectly) to develop a version of its browser for the iDevices (iPhone, iPad and the iPod Touch)
Skyfire has congratulated Opera and Apple for the approval and it goes on to say, "Everyone at Skyfire was heartened by this decision by Apple, to open up their platform and believe this sets a solid precedent for additional innovation in mobile browsing from other companies. The Skyfire team has been watching the Opera submission and the iPhone/iPad market closely, and this will certainly accelerate our strategy on iDevices."
Looks like the folks at Skyfire were waiting for the dominant mobile browser to enter the App Store before trying their luck with Apple. Hopefully, Skyfire has a team of developers already engaged in designing a browser for the iPhone that meets Apple's terms and conditions.
Also, if it ever happens, the day when we would be seeing Safari, Skyfire and Opera Mini all running simultaneously on the iPhone (with OS 4.0) might not be that far!
