Sony Ericsson has announced the launch of five new high-end phones in India - with prices ranging from Rs. 25,695 to Rs. 35,795.

We are talking about the launch of the much awaited Xperia X10, one of the most desirable Android phones out there along with its cousins - the X10 Mini and the X10 Mini Pro. The other two handsets are from the S60 stables in the form of the Vivaz (earlier known as the Kurara) and the slide out, QWERTY keypad laden Vivaz Pro.

These devices enter an already crowded market with formidable opponents to fend off. They square against the likes of the Nokia N97, Samsung Omnia HD, HTC HD2, the HTC Hero and the various BlackBerry devices.

Since we have already gone through the details of these devices earlier too here we are not going into details regarding these.
The price details of only two devices are know at this point of time - these are the Xperia X10 which will be priced at  princely Rs. 35,795 and the Vivaz which would set you back by Rs. 25,695. The prices of the  Xperia X10 Mini, Xperia X10 Mini Pro and the Vivaz Pro, are all yet to be revealed. The Vivaz, as you might be aware, supports video recording in HD and has an 8 megapixel camera at the back. The Vivaz Pro on the other hand has a 5 megapixel camera. As for the Xperia X10 Mini and the Mini Pro - the major difference between them is the presence of a slide out QWERTY keypad on the Pro.

Along with the launch of these new devices, Sony Ericsson also announced that it has tied up entities like MTV India, UTV, Shemaroo, Electronics Art, Indiagames and Disney among others to deliver entertainment content.

It is imperative that Sony Ericsson prices its devices sensibly and provides its customers with better service so that it can regain the position it once held during the days of its earlier Walkman and Cybershot series. We will be updating the prices of the other three phones as soon as we have them.

Take a look at the new fleet of phones:

This is not a "SmartPhone", it is "Dumbphone". I have been struggling since 3 months from day one of purchase. Apparently when the phone is synchronising Data/ Internet, you are unreachable on the "voice network" After 3 months of running from pillar to post, the Sony Ericsson team says that this is default feature of the phone and nothing can be done about it. (You can call Sony Ericsson Service center and find out) So when you surf on the internet or download mails, you are completely unreachable on the Voice network. No calls can come in, you are not reachable if someone calls you on your mobile. This is a pedestrian feature which is offered by even the lowest end NOKIA Phones. Don't know what to do with this phone. It SUCKS! Please don't EVER buy a Sony Ericsson Phone, they should better stick to manufacturing cameras. Suresh

I m a SE phone user and lover, but SE should understand that its not the only brand in the market offering high end phones. Others are coming out with more variety at much lower rates in the premium segment also. Sony doesnt always mean better products. There are dozens of SE phones with substandard quality and the buyers swear not to go for SE again. So SE should be more practical and realistic. Else, the brand will be cannibalized.

such expensive phones will not sell many coz there are better options now available at much better pricing. Also, sony is not an exclusive brand to attract the snob value or cool factor either. Feel that sony has to give itz pricing a hard look to maintain its current market position, which is nowhere near Nokia or Samsung.
