After months of waiting, the iPhone 3GS has finally landed in India. While Airtel did announce last week that they are launching the iPhone in the country, they hadn't revealed price details of the handset.

Well, that was two days ago. We now have the pricing details of the iPhone 3GS in India revealed a few hours ago. Apparently, the older 8GB 3G version of the iPhone will continue to be sold here at a price of Rs. 29,500. The 16GB 3GS will set you back by a cool Rs. 35,500 while the top-end, 32GB iPhone 3GS will cost an outrageous 41,500 in India. These will be available in India from from March 26.

Airtel also has a data plan for iPhone users (the handsets will be locked to the Airtel network) that will give the 500MB of free data every month for an entire year (starting from the date of activation).

You can purchase the iPhone 3GS from an Airtel authorized retail stores across India starting March 26. Head to the iPhone 3GS Airtel website here for more information.

I had a vary bad experience with my Iphone 3G bought in Jan 2009 in India with bill and warranty and locked to Airtel Network. Few days back I had this problem where my Iphone kept rebooting every few minutes so I thought of restoring it, and when I connected it to my computer with Itunes and presses the restore button that was the end of it, my phone is gone and nobody is able to fix it. Spoke to Airtel as they are one who would provide the support for the iphone, their executive told me that I need to pay them Rs.12630 and that too through an advance DD for a Brand New Iphone 3G. I am in total dellima as to what to do in this situation, as I remeber paying 35.5K for the brand new phone when I bought it.

After the launch of Iphone 4, the older Iphone 3GS in US costs $99 only (Rs.5000)......Airtel is charging 6 times that price. This is so lame...!

Hmmm..500mb WOW!!Now compare this with Singapore..12 GB free. For phone 16GB will cost around 300 SGD to 600 SGD based on contract and your monthly subscription charges and a monthly plan based on how much download you want whether 8 GB or 12 GB.Alas I still donot understand why they sell it at higher price in India..And as far as I know does India has 3G infrastructure in place..recently the Gov released the 3G spectrum..good for ppl who want to show off that they have a IPhone..

Why doesnt Apple sell the iphone directly thru their imagine stores? Do they have any service issues? Basically I believe Apple has no interest in the Asian markets when they have so many gullible Americans to fleece

its always better to for factory unlock option and take up a BSNL / MTNL 3G connection and actually enjoy the fun of mobility...... At the same time also try hand on Google phone or even N97 / N97mini....trust the extra money what we spend on these fancy name is not at all worth a single penny....no one remembers what phone we use except we utilizing feature....these brands need to understand and come out of the snob values ...if they need volume...

its ridiculous to buy for 35,500 for a locked phone.. i dont know wen this brainless heads in airtel ll change the attitude. Customers are not funny monkeys to buy it for tat heavy price. Im speakin this out because i m ownin an iphone 3g from airtel few yrs back. i took in on the first day and i have gone enough exp with airtel for the support and so on. For me Best idea is to get iphone 3gs from US in AT&T or some where, were u can buy factory unlocked for this price and u can use it genuinely with any carrier and can update from direct apple. Now its been official tat in US iphone 3gs are sold without contract from AT&T.. wats more u want. I ll suggest people not to buy from Airtel.

IMO pricing has nothing to do with Airtel still you are paying same price of an unlocked Iphone what you would pay in the U.S, only differences in taxes so whining at them is simply pointless. There are people who are going to buy this just to tell Hey! i bought the Iphone 3GS, its very fast and i can zoom in and out on the screen by pinching it.

Does iPhone really works in India? I wonder.

Well, its reasonable. The 16 GB 3GS costs $599+taxes in America itself unlocked. We can be upset that it is inherently expensive. But its not like only us Indians r getting it at this price.

The difference is that the $599 is for an unlocked iPhone. Here the price is for a locked phone. The prices for locked iPhones starts from $99 only, so that is what we should compare the indian prices to instead of comparing locked and unlocked prices.

Dude, its 599 dollars without a contract with ATnT. Its still locked to ATnT. U can choose ur own plan and dont have to pay them $70 every month as in the case of the locked (& contracted) $199 Iphone 3GS. So yea the price for the unlocked 3GS is at par with USA. the differences being the taxes and customs duty in India.

i don't think that airtel is kind enough to subsidise the cost like the other operators in USA / Europe etc..

if you really want one, go to ebay india. have seen it as low as 20K for a brand new 3G phone, awesome deal at that price point. just make sure it is new, then you won't even have to wory about warranty, the build is solid! 30K is for people who have money pouring out of their ears :)

So if they DO have money pouring out of their ears or nose whatever, that is a bad thing? LOL, its funny how people ridicule people who have the money to buy it and r pretty happy with it too!

High Quality joke from Airtel... Airtel not only makes you talk, it also makes you laugh.... The sad part is we have to wait for another joke until Apple launches IPhone 4G ... PS: OOps .. I forgot the 3G auctions.. lol !!

Exuberant prices for a devices whose full potential can be exploited in India for the lack of 3G services availability from different providers. 500 Mbs free: sounds like a cruel joke ...

that 500 MB really is a joke because they consider very 30KB as minimum packet. So if you have notifications turned ON in your phone you would have consumed 500MB in a few days. ridiculous. and you won't know about it until you get your bills.
Chetan

Dude, 500 MB is sufficient. Facebook, or IM notifications wont come up to 500 MB!!. A decent usage of browsing and chatting and 500 Mb is enough. Unles of course u tether it to your pC. I have airtels Rs. 100 plan for 2GB and extensiv usage in the day and i barely use 700 Mb out of it
