India's existing 3G network just got wider with the commencement of BSNL's 3G services in Imphal, the capital of Manipur. The arrival of 3G in the north eastern state of Manipur will allow people there to access fast downloads and quicker Internet access while on the move.
The service was launched at a ceremony held at Imphal by the chief general manager of BSNL North East II Circle Ranjan Sanyal. The 3G services will expand to other areas of the state in the weeks to come. Areas to be covered by 3G in the state of Manipur are parts of Thoubal, Churachandpur and Senapati districts. This was revealed by a senior BSNL official.
BSNL has been on a massive 3G expansion drive of late with the services launching in Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. BSNL looks to be the dominant player in the 3G sector before the private players get their licenses to operate in the 3G spectrum. North East too seems to be under the radar of BSNL with other states in the region too poised to jump to 3G networks in the near future.
