Will it make it to the walled garden i.e; the Apple App Store?

A version of Opera Mini designed for the iPhone was showcased at the Mobile World Congress 2010. Back then, Opera did not mention as to when we should expect the browser to enter the Apple App Store.

That was almost two months ago. Now, Opera is again readying itself to display the browser at the CTIA Wireless scheduled to commence on March 23. At the MWC, Opera did not allow people to photograph and capture videos of the browser working on the iPhone. However, that will not be the case at the CTIA where people would be allowed to see and show the world, Opera Mini running on the iPhone.

While we have no clue when you and I would be able to use Opera Mini on the iPhone, it is likely that Opera is inching towards submitting the application for approval by the Apple App Store folks very soon. This bit is sure to get in to stormy weather as Opera Mini basically duplicates the functionality of Safari for iPhone - a strict no no for any application that is subject to the strict app approval rules of the app store. The only probable reason Apple might just approve it is owing to huge public pressure or some kind of a pact with Opera.

Anyway, we have our sights set on the CTIA Wireless and see how the Opera Mini for the iPhone turns out to be.
