Microsoft clarifies that HD2 is not compliant with Windows Phone 7 hardware specifications
Microsoft has just dropped a bomb on every HTC HD2 owner and potential buyer who was looking forward to watch Windows Phone 7 mobile OS run on it. Joe Belfiore, Windows Phone Platform corporate vice president, told Engadget that HD2 is "not compliant with the Windows Phone 7 Series hardware specifications". He added that it won't get a Windows Phone 7 update. Seems like the information shared by Microsoft's senior official Natasha Kwan that none of the Windows Mobile 6.5 series phones are compliant to Windows Phone 7 wasn't enough.
The buzz about Windows Phone 7 started before the Mobile World Congress 2010 that took place last month. Post that, Microsoft made it clear in an official statement that the company does not plan to update the HTC HD2 to Windows Phone 7 series currently, as reported by Mary Jo Foley.
Som all that specifications bump for T-Mobile branded HD2 was merely to keep you all on toes. However, HD2 will support the new versions of Windows Mobile OS 6.x (where x stands for version number).
This news makes the HTC HD2 unviable and unattractive. It won't be able to run new applications. Everyone has stopped developing apps for the old Windows Mobile. For this reason, the HD2 should be avoided.
However, HTC makes some other good phones that run Google's Android operating system.
