The Search for a Good Syncing Application

Find out which one of these paid syncing applications is the best

I've got a ton of installer files and essential documents that I like to have in sync between both my computers at home. That means I always have a backup and I can administer the second computer better. For this, a syncing application is a perfect choice, but unfortunately getting a freeware application is out of the question, as they are far too basic or do not have certain features that would be required to automate the task. Therefore paid software is the only way forward.

You can check out Microsoft's free SyncToy that I've reviewed previously.

So what am I looking for?

1.    An elegant, yet simple solution
2.    You don't need to be a computer engineer to figure it out
3.    Should have the ability to schedule and/or make changes automatically
4.    Should be reasonably priced, though free would be the icing on the cake

Note: FTP backup and email through SMTP features were not looked into for this brief review.

TIP

If upgrading from a previous version, always sync all your files first and then upgrade, otherwise Syncing applications have a habit of woefully forgetting to sync remaining changes after version upgrades.

I am also using Microsoft SyncToy successfully over the years. I never faced any problem. Very neat and decent package and it is free. What are you trying to do - selling software at your site. When it is freely available, why pay?

Microsoft SyncToy is free and I have been using it for quite a while.

Microsoft Live Sync doesn't seem to be mentioned, yet offers all you need and it's free.

I've been using SyncBack basic (free) version for a long time and am very happy about it. I agree that the initial setup us not-so-easy. But, once set up, it works like a breeze.
