    BSNL Unlimited EV-DO Gets Cheaper

Techtree News Staff, Mar 12, 2010 1217 hrs IST

Monthly tariff slashed to Rs. 750 from Rs. 999

    mail share

BSNL has announced the launch of a promotional plan that will allow users to avail its EV-DO based broadband connection at a discounted price of Rs. 750 per month. The same service cost users Rs. 999 per month until now.

The plan offers "unlimited" data usage with a maximum speed of 3.1 Mbps. This plan has been extended for existing as well as new users. However, you might want to act quickly because this offer is only valid for those who apply for it before March 31, 2010. There is one catch though - this service comes with a fair usage policy - which means that if you exceed a limit prescribed by BSNL, you would be liable to paying Rs. 0.50 per MB. This, mind you, is by no means cheap!

BSNL's EV-DO service is available in only select towns across India and uses a CDMA based 3G technology. It is unclear as to how many cities currently serviced by BSNL's EV-DO service will get these new tariffs. If your town was already under the EV-DO network, you might want to get in touch with your local BSNL telephone exchange to find out if you can get a new connection with this plan - or simply change your plan to this new one.

Apart from this unlimited plan, BSNL also has a few other plans as shown below:

I could not find any information on FUP on the bsnl site or anywhere else for that matter. I also spoke to their customer service and they had no idea what FUP means ;) Could you explain where you came up with info.

I have used almost all the data cards provided by various service providers including 3G datacards by tata i.e photon and reliance etc. But the BSNL's EVDO card is much better than them in terms of speed and price no data card service provider is providing such speed at such low price even cable broadband is not providing u that much speed at such low prices.BSNL even providing u free roaming allover india. Go for EVDO card as i am using it since last six months w/o any problem and downloaded a lot of movies since then

techtree saying this plan "unlimited"? What a shame! I thought Techtree guys were one of the better guys at tech. Shame shame. Fair Usage Policy (FUP) means your speed will be reduced once you exceed a certain download limit. There still won't be any charge per MB. But this one is so not unlimited.

It doesn't make sense ! If its unlimited, how can you exceed the limit? What is the fair usage policy limit???

"The plan offers "unlimited" data usage with a maximum speed of 3.1 Mbps" AND "if you exceed a limit prescribed by BSNL, you would be liable to paying Rs. 0.50 per MB." Does this make sense? No.

BSNL EV-DO speed depends on the no of connection in particular area, If no of users increased the speed goes down.

damn useless service by BSNL, dont even think about taking this service. I took BSNL's EVDO in september 2008, got it disconnected in march 2009. the speeds were useless, download speed was very inconsistent, it jumps to 1mbps and above in an instance, and then drops down to 28bps.. i live 1km away from tower. Now i am using BSNL 3G through Sim on Micromax MMX300G 3G USB modem, its absolutely fantastic, in the beginning it also gave me troubles. i think they have advanced, and the service is damn good, i ping delhi speedtest.net server in around 140/150 kbps. but the download speed is comparatively slow, max out at an average of 120kbps. so better go for 3G, instead of evdo. and u know, when i use the BSNL 3G sim card in mobile, it shows 3.5G..

I had EVDO for the last 2 years. It was pretty good initially, but then they gave connections to too many people. Now during day time, my speeds typically less than 100kbps. After midnight, it gets better and during the dead of the night, it may even go up to 0.5 mbps. It is totaly unreliable and useless. The service engineer admitted that there are too many connections for a single tower -- so don't expect too much from it.

we only get 140 kpps in some areas, have fair usage policy in unlimited plans and they ate saying its Broad Band. See how companies cheat consumers. Kill Kill Kill kill Kill Kill Kill BSNL.

BSNL EVDO in Ernakulam is terrible. After four moths of struggling with very low speeds, I just returned it last week. Now I'm planning to try BSNL-3G. Waiting for my deposits to come back, what a shame.

might be it is the cheapest one for high speed data card connection..but it is not really worth it. My experience for speed and service can be summarised in one word and that is HORRIBLE.i had this connection for 3-4 months and hardly got a speed of 100kbps..although the software showed a signal strength of 4-5 bars...
