PlayStation Move controller will add more fun to gaming experience on PlayStation 3 console
At the on-going Game Developers Conference 2010 in San Francisco, Sony Computer Entertainment revealed the much awaited Motion controller for PlayStation 3 console with the brand name - PlayStation Move. All new PlayStation Move will also operate with another 'subcontroller' - both to be used with PlayStation Eye camera. Sony will sell the Move controller separately and also as a bundle including PlayStation eye camera, Move controller and a game would be made available.
New PlayStation Move controller is like wand that will remind you of Wii's Nunchuk but with a colored sphere on the top. It's this sphere that helps PlayStation Eye detect the whereabouts of Move controller. Sony will offer the Move controller with spheres in sky blue, yellow, light green, pink and while color options. Alongside that, Subcontroller with direction buttons, analog stick and home button will also be paired with the Move. This Subcontroller comes handy in shooting and action games like SOCOM 4.
Sony has dropped the word Arc for the Motion Controller that had been buzzing the web lately. Move controller is equipped with two high-precision motion sensors, three axis gyroscope (X plane, Y plane and Z plane), and three axis accelerometer. These components allow the eye camera to detect the presence as well as the precise movement and change in position of the Move controller. It's unlikely that the Subcontroller will come with any motion sensors.
Few Move controller friendly game demos were shown at the event. These demos include Sports Champions, Move Party, Dukes, TV Superstars, Slider and The Shoot. Of course, upcoming SOCOM 4 game was demonstrated using Move controller and Subcontroller. Sony had already announced a lineup of Move controller friendly games last year at the GDC 2009. About 36 game developing and publishing companies will support Move controller. As a result, 20 game titles, Move-centric or Move-supporting, would be announced in fiscal year of 2010-2011.
Microsoft's Project Natal, a gesture control system for Xbox 360, is due for arrival in Holiday season but by that time, Sony's Move controller would already be all over the place. It would be an interesting tug of war by the end of this year between - Nintendo Wii's MotionPlus+Nunchuks, Sony PlayStation Move and Microsoft's Project Natal.
Looks like crap. How about someone comes up with a new idea instead of copying another. And why do I need a 75W light bulb to play a game now? Can you say 'desperate attempt'?
"How about someone comes up with a new idea instead of copying another."
By that logic, any company that makes a game console with a game pad is "copying an idea". All Sony is doing is making a console controller with better position and motion sensing than Wii. Bring it on :) But if you prefer traditional console gaming then I suppose this is nothing exciting for you. I like the variety that the Wii has introduced into console gaming. This is just continuing and improving upon that.
Sony and others will not abandon traditional gaming control if their is a market for it and obviously there is and will be for many years to come. This just attracts a new market and thus more revenue for advancing other aspects of games and gaming hardware. It's all good and good for everyone :)
Looks promising because it looks like it has actual proper position tracking and not mainly just motion sensing. This is what Wii should have been to begin with imo.
Interesting. As someone else said, many developers tend to make gimmicky games with these things, but I'm not too afraid because when you have a good game like Metroid Prime 3, and you've got a control scheme like this, it feels so natural, much more so than using two analogue sticks. That said, because of what I just said, I'm only really excited about SOCOM4 and shooter games in general with these control schemes. If it were say Monster Hunter or similar, I'd prefer the six-axis controller much more. Luckily, the PS3's main controller is the Six-Axis. (Another problem - charging? Hopefully Sony allow the use of USB cables. Recharging batteries for a Gameboy Advance is OK, but recharging batteries for 2 wiimotes gets a lot more complicated.
I agree I had two red parts of thee article a couple of tymes to make shure I was reading it write.
Also the nunchuck is the secondary device on the Wii so thats not even comparing correctly, the writer comparing the nunchuck to the wand...wrong! This site supposed to be a "professional" site? or just one of those "I can post anything and make money off it for every hit i get"? which would explain the unprofessionalism of the article and lack of correct facts...
I really hope that this isn't the new direction that gaming is going. I was very upset at E3 when I saw this and Natal, which basically said that they wanted to turn console games into low depth parlor trick games like the Wii has. I got the Wii for my wife, and like I predicted, she got very bored with it after the motion capture lost its luster. Games that rely on motion capture have no depth and I don't want to sacrifice great games in order to be able to wave my hands around.
