Kingston has introduced new DataTraveler 310 USB Flash Drive with a massive 256GB capacity. This device is better than the 256GB DataTraveler 300, thanks to DataTraveler 310's faster data transfer speeds. This USB Flash Drive is available in India for Rs. 48,380 and is backed by a warranty of five years.
New Kingston DataTraveler 310 can hold up to 54 DVD worth data in its 256GB capacity. It offers read speeds of 25MB/s and write speeds of 12MB/s. While the DT 300 offered read speeds of 20MB/s and write speeds of 10MB/s. Kingston DataTraveler 310's dimensions are - 2.90-inch x 0.87-inch x 0.63-inch (73.70mm x 22.20mm x 16.10mm). This Flash Drive also features Password Traveler software. Using that software, consumers can create and access a password-protected privacy zone.
DataTraveler 310 is compatible with Windows, Mac OS X 10.3 or higher and OSes with Linux Kernel 2.6.1 or above. However, the Password Traveler software works only in Windows platform (Windows 7/Vista/XP/2000).
As mentioned earlier, this new DT 310 also supports Windows ReadyBoost feature. Windows Vista and Windows 7 Essential make use of Flash memory based mass storage system as drive for disk cache and thus can be used as additional memory.
This pricey USB Flash Drive is meant for those who're always on the move and need to take large, critical data on a tiny device. It's a miniature alternative to portable HDD drive in terms of size.
We are all laughing at the mind-boggling cost of this humongous-capacity tiny pendrive.
But I still remember my first RAM memory chip was just 1mb (soldered permanently to a Intel 386DX PC motherboard), my first floppy was a Verbatim 128kb, my first hard disk was around 80mb, and my first pen drive was just 128mb. When that PC with its old components died out on me, it was sold off as e-waste scrap more than 15 years ago.
I stopped using that 128mb pendrive long long ago (I think I gave it away to my sister), as it is not much useful these days, and guess what - it is still working so many years later ! Yup, if pendrives are properly maintained (keep it dust free, don't lose its cap and don't put any weight or water on it), they last long, really longer than hard drives, because they have no mechanical parts and need no additional power source.
My newest pendrive is 64gb and it is ideal for data sharing and backups. India is the land of piracy, and we Indians are accustomed to copying games, applications, videos and songs from friends and office.
I predict that those who think 256gb pendrive is a waste, will immediately buy it if it is available for around Rs.2000. Funny thing is that prices of data storage devices (especially hard disks) is falling very very quickly, and a couple of years down the line, 256gb will be commonly available in the market and there will be demand for it if the prices come down to a few thousands.
And guess what? The SSD (solid state drive = flash drive) manufacturers like Sandisk, Kingston and Transcend (even Seagate is into hybrid HDD+SSD's) will be the ones laughing all the way to the bank.
invent something which is useful,HDD are designed for storing purposes and they are placed almost permanent beside a laptop or desktop.just imagine storing 256 GB of info and the pendive is lost.i will buy 10 SEAGATE 320 GB HDD instead of buying this shit
If u cannot safely keep the pendrive with you.. why the hell then u want to buy it...
U r just still a kid.. who looses pen and pencil in the class room..
So u pl dnt buy it..
Get well Soon
kingston is a good company...
products are quality products..
but thease data travelers are very slow in tansfaring data ....
other company like transcend produce very fast data travelers...
tou should grow your performence....
Yes, No one would buy for that much price. For 1/4th price of it, one may get 1 terabyte of portable Hard Disk with much faster accessing speed. Whoever it lags in terms of portability but it worth storing and carrying data. The only appreciable thing in it is small size and due to its light weight it may be shock proof
really huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge price, its not at all worth the money that we pay. technology should bring in new thing which are affordable for everyone and value for money.
these r for very very rich peoples...wat abt we middle class ppls?Kingston dnt have hard disks...so why dnt u put a reasonable price for the HDD players like samsung,WD etc so tht they run for their products to exsist......keep 256gb flash drive a war price of 2.5k or 3k
Rs 48K for a USB Flash Drive of 256 GB? Really, no one would want to buy this when the have the worthy external HDDs! As for Ready Boost there are better pen drives for that! A worthless mega expensive product by Kingston
I wont call it worthless. Remember even cell phones were luxury items once but now every one owns them. It is just a matter of time when the high end items start becoming cheaper and make their way to everybody's hands.
Wow. Never seen such a huge capacity. But for such a price it wont sell more than few finger countable pieces in India. Only advantage is compact and nothing nothing more than that. An 2 TB External HDD cost 13 K
