Western Digital has introduced new portable hard disk drive - My Passport Studio for Mac systems. This new My Passport Studio portable HDD has customizable e-label smart display and features super speedy FireWire 800 interface. Mac formatted My Passport Studio is available in 320GB for $149 (Rs. 7,200 approx.), 500GB for $179 (Rs. 8,650 approx.) and 640GB for $199 (Rs. 9,600 approx.). While in India, these My Passport Studio portable HDDs would be available in 500GB and 640GB capacities for Rs. 9,600 and Rs. 10,750 respectively.
New My Passport Studio portable HDDs are meant and HFS+ Journaling formatted for Mac computers. These portable drives sport e-label smart display that can be customized by using the WD SmartWare software. You can set your security or drive capacity status in the display. The Mac systems loaded with Mac OS X Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard are compatible to use these My Passport Studio portable drives.
Featuring the ultra-fast FireWire 800 interface, My Passport Studio offers transfers rate of up to 800Mb/s and up to 480 Mb/s USB 2.0 interface. Now, all recent generation iMac, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro computers use FireWire 800 ports.
These new plug-and-play My Passport Studio portable drives are compatible with Apple Time Machine software besides the automatic and continuous backup feature. Also, these drives come with 256-bit hardware-based encryption and password protection feature for data security.
My Passport Studio can also be used for Windows 7/Vista/XP after re-formatting. Thankfully, the package includes both FireWire 800 to 400 adapter so the users won't have to go around looking for one.
