Continuing 3G launching spree across the country, BSNL has bought 3G to Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh and other major cities across the state. This comes barely days after the service was launched in Bangalore, Karnataka.

While the launch of the services was expected across Andhra Pradesh, what has interested us are the tariffs of the service - details of which are provided below:

New subscribers on the 3G network can make STD calls for 50 paise per minute. Local calls, on the other hand, are priced at 30 paise per minute. This is while using the 3G network. If you are off the 3G network, the charges will be 70 paise for STD and 60 paise (both per minute) for local calls. Local SMS will be charged at 40 paise per SMS, national SMS for 60 paise and international SMS for Rs. 3. Now, for the important part. The data transfer charges is 1 paisa per 10KB data transfer.

There is a subscription charges for the 3G network that amounts to Rs. 59. New 3G consumers have the option to recharge for Rs. 120. In the beginning, BSNL has announced a promotional offer in which users will get 50 minutes of free talk time on STD OR local calls (video calls) and 25MB of free data transfer.

The tariffs are slightly different for existing BSNL consumers. If they subscribe to 3G, they will be charged 50 paise and 70 paise for 3G and a non 3G local call respectively. For STD calls, they have to pay 60 paise using 3G and 80 paise on 2G. If you notice, calls on the 3G network are actually cheaper!

The service is now live and can be accessed in 29 cities and 23 district headquarters across Andhra Pradesh.

The tarrif looks foolish, how come moving to 3G effects the voice call charges. as all know generation to generation (G) what is getting enhanced in the network (access side) is the transmission rate and the bandwidth. This increase in transimission rate and bandwidth enables bew ahd higher bandwidth hungry data services(like mobile TV, Vedio confrencing, MMSs,...) operate better, so the tarrif effects should be more seen on on data charges and not on voice side alone.

Let the people made aware what is a 3 G service and its benefits before selling the product. Let us put the resources in the right way for optimal benefit... we are proud to have such an infrastructure but doesn't know what is what and how to use which results in waste. Please create awareness among the public.... Lets take India to next level. Lets proud to be Indians.

Without checking the signal strength one should not opt for this service. As I am a user of this service and very much disappointed the BSNL's commitment. and more over the customer care is really horrible. what ever language you speak, you will neverbe able to make them understand you query and complains the Customers are really in the hands of God after getting this connection I my self have wasted more than 1000 bucks for all recharges and top ups non of the BSNL people is aware of their tariff nor their vouchers for instance Rs 41/ - power they have announced but still not working, Inspite of having balance in your date plan they will deduct balance from your Main A/c after complaining too you won't get it back more over you will loose your temper on this 3rd Class telecallers whom they have appointed as Customer care executives
