The Mobile World Congress 2010 was an amazing event that gave us so many mobile phone launches to drool over. But in case you missed our coverage of the event, today we are going to list some of the handsets that caught our eye and were the highlight of this year's event.

Samsung

Samsung put on quite an impressive show this year. Not only were they announcing new handsets but they launched their brand new mobile operating system, Bada OS, and also the first phone that will be running it, the Samsung Wave. They also showcased some of their other technologies such as the awesome new Super AMOLED displays.

Samsung Wave

Samsung Wave is one of the most important handsets to have come out of MWC this year, and that is for two reasons; software and hardware. Wave is the first phone from Samsung to have their new Bada OS. With Bada, Samsung is moving on from their standard OS found on phones like the Samsung Jet. Bada is a full-fledged smartphone OS capable of running third party applications and full multi-tasking capability.

As far as hardware is concerned, the Wave is the first phone to have features like Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth v3.0. It also has a 3.3", 480 x 800 pixel Super AMOLED display. Compared to standard AMOLED displays, SUPER AMOLED displays from Samsung are capable of producing around 20% more brightness, significantly improved visibility under sunlight and extended display life. The Samsung Wave also runs on a powerful 1GHz ARM Cortex processor. Initial impressions from those who used the phone were that it had a smooth and fast user interface.

The Samsung Wave comes with Samsung DNSe sound engine for improving the audio quality. It will come with an option of 2GB or 8GB built-in memory with the option to expand it further. It has a 5 megapixel camera with the ability to record videos in 720p resolution at 24 FPS. The Wave is powered by a 1500 mAh battery.

Samsung i8520 Beam

The Samsung i8520 Beam is the first Android phone with a built-in projector. The phone is capable of projecting a WVGA image (800 x 480). Despite the presence of a projector within the body, Samsung has managed to keep the thickness of the phone less than 15mm, which is quite impressive.

The Beam runs on Android v2.1 OS. The interface, however, is unlike any of the other Android phones that you might have seen, and has been designed to completely mirror the TouchWiz interface on the Samsung Bada. Underneath, the Beam has an 800 Mhz Cortex processor 512MB of ROM and 384MB of RAM. The display is a 3.7", 480 x 800 pixel Super AMOLED. Like the Wave, the Beam too has support for Wi-Fi 802.11n but the Bluetooth is v2.1 here. You also get 3G, HSDPA and A-GPS. The camera is a 5 megapixel unit and can record videos in 720p resolution at 30FPS. Considering the built-in projector, the Beam has a massive 1800 mAh battery.

I like the HTC HD Mini a lot but why does it have 65k colour screen & not 16M? Is it a Windows Mobile 6.5 limitation? or hardware limitation?

The 65k color limitation is dictated by the OS and not a hardware limitation. Microsoft has imposed that restriction to make sure that the older phones with slower processors would run smoothly.
