Nvidia said it will launch its much anticipated GF100 "Fermi" GPUs branded as GTX 400 series on March 26 at the Penny Arcade Expo 2010 in Boston.

This news was broken by Nvidia via its official Twitter account which said:

Apologies for the confusion around our most recent GF100 update. To clarify, launch date for GeForce GTX 480 and GTX 470 is March 26, 2010.

Till date, Nvidia has shared a few details about the Fermi architecture based next generation GF100 GPU graphics cards but the performance was never spoken about. Earlier this month, Nvidia announced brand names of its two high-end GF100 GPU based graphics cards - GTX 480 and GTX 470.

An XFX branded Nvidia GeForce GTX 480 graphics card has already got listed at U.S. retailer's site for $699 (Rs. 33,600 approx.). Unfortunately, no specifications were available in the listing. We may expect the price of GTX 480 and GTX 470 to be between $700-$600 at the time of launch.

I was expecting a much more powerful card, what have Nvidia been doing with their time, seem ATI have the most powerful card on the market, for the foreseeable future, and it uses less power, not to mention the 5970 is old news now, ATI are probably already putting together their next card.

That listing for near $700 was pulled; it was most likely a stunt to get attention to that retailers page. The actual price may or may not be anywhere near that point. As for all the "news" about power consumption, heat, performance, etc; nothing has ever been released from a reputable source. Everything is rumor, most of it from decidedly biased sources. At least one major site released supposed performance numbers for the GTX 480 yesterday that were actually from the slower GTX 470, if they were even legitimate at all. Just wait another month until there are solid facts to make your opinions on, then decide if you want to go ATI or NVIDIA. There's no reason with a month left before release to take sides based on rumors, speculation, and fanboy-ism.

I don't have very high hopes for it. I have been following news and read about its power consumption and not so impressive performance gain over Radeon HD5870.

I hope power consumption will be reasonable i heard its 280 watts witch is more than ati 5970 but 5970 is more powerful and uses 250 watts thats what it says online !!!
