Capacity wars have been going on for years in the magnetic storage hard drive arena. First, it was Hitachi with the 1 TB hard drive, then came Seagate with a 1.5 TB drive a couple of years ago. However, the crown for largest capacity was snatched by Western Digital last year with its unprecedented 2.0 TB hard drive. WD recently announced the first two 2.0 TB hard drives with platters spinning at 7,200 RPM (earlier drives ran at lower speeds).
This 2.0 TB juggernaut of data storage - WD RE4 WD2003FYYS - is an enterprise class hard drive. The RE4 moniker means that this is part of the RAID Edition lineup of WD hard drives tuned to deliver the highest reliability and performance to the enterprise segment and is meant to be used in servers. Read on to find out how well this hard drive performed in our tests.
