Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor made waves this year and has started powering most of the powerful, feature packed handsets of today. Phones like the Nexus One, HTC Desire and HD2 are all powered by this fast, efficient mobile processor. Nokia, however, is yet to implement snapdragons in any of its devices as of now. However, that will change this very year when Nokia will announce the first of its phone based on the Snapdragon processor. Qualcomm and Nokia had, in fact, started working on this last year and had said back then that they expect the first handset out of this collaboration to arrive by mid-2010. They seem to be bang on target when at the ongoing MWC, Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs shed some light on the Nokia-Qualcomm plans. Answering a question posed by a Finnish newspaper, Jacobs said that Nokia and Qualcomm will introduce a Symbian smartphone based on a Snapdragon processor this year.
The snapdragon processor has one version in its current avatar. However, there are two other faster variants that are in the making as of now. The current processor runs at 1Ghz while the upcoming ones are rated at 1.3Ghz and 1.5GHz respectively! This would be a huge jump for Nokia whose fastest phone the N900 uses the ARM Cortex A8 processor that runs at 600Mhz.
