Intel is rumored to bring one quad-core Intel Core i7 processor along with two dual-core Intel Core i3 and Core i5 chips in the next quarter, reported Xbit Labs. These new energy efficient Lynnfield and Clarkdale processors would be added to the existing Intel lineup. Intel Core i3-550Ghz, Intel Core i5-680 and Intel Core i7-880 are the processors which are expected to be launched.

Intel's 45nm Nehalem architecture based quad-core Intel Core i7-880 would run at clock speed of 3.06GHz with 8MB cache. This Core i7-880 will rest between the 2.93GHz Core i7-870 and 2.66GHz Core i7-920 processors. Using Intel Turbo Boost technology, this processor's clock speed can be boosted 3.73GHz. This Core i7 chip has Thermal Design Power rating of 95W. This processor will support DDR3 1333MHz memory.

New dual-core Intel Core i5-680 processor will come clocked at 3.60GHz with 4MB cache. Again, this processor will be the highest end 32nm dual-core Core i5 processor. Performance can be increased using Intel Turbo Boost that will raise Core i5-680 from 3.60GHz to 3.86GHz. This chip will support 1333MHz DDR3 memory and has TDP of 73W.

Higher-end dual-core Core i3-550 processor with clock speed of 3.20GHz will join the existing  2.93GHz Core i3-530 and 3.06GHz Core i3-540. Built using 32nm manufacturing technology this Westmere family processor has TDP rating of 73W which is as much as that of Core i5-680.

Energy efficiency with increase in performance is Intel's one of the major lookouts. There's no official confirmation for these processor models and all we now can do is wait for the official word.
