There is no doubt that the BlackBerry is amongst the world's most popular smartphone platforms. However, unlike other platforms, where browsing had become very convenient and more "the real web" like, Blackberry phones had to rely on a third party browser for a decent browsing experience. The default browser wasn't just up there .
That, however, might be not the case for long as RIM has, at the on-going MWC, showcased a new browser that it is prepping for its forthcoming phones. Also, this new browser might be integrated to existing devices via an update. The new browser is Webkit based and prima facie, looks quite capable as well. Incidentally, the iPhone, Android and Symbian phones all use browsers based on the Webkit rendering engine.
The BlackBerry browser is most possibly the result of RIM s takeover of Torch Mobile, the developer of Iris Browser. The new browser will support HTML5, CSS3, and DOM L3, JavaScript and AJAX pages. There is no word as to when we should expect this new browser. A video of the browser at work follows.
